Has anyone had any issues starting their cars after a fuel filter change on the petrol variants TSI/TFSI? Do you need to bleed the system or should it pull through fuel itself.

Older VAG engines used to prime the fuel pumps by cycling the ignition.

 

Modern common rail (CR) diesels no longer do this, requiring a diagnostic tool to manually prime the pump.

 

However, I changed the fuel filter on my CR engine without using VCDS (diagnostic software) to prime it. I was just very careful to minimise the fuel loss from out of the fuel filter housing. I allowed the filter to drain back into the housing, so that when the new filter was inserted and it had filled with fuel the actual level had only dropped a few centimeters.

 

Taking things slow and steady also minimises the chances of introducing air into the system.

 

As for the TSI's I've not done one yet, but I can confirm that each time the drivers door is opened on our 1.4 TSI Kodiaq it prompts the priming of the fuel pump. I'd therefore guess that you'll be fine without priming the system manually.
