Aftermarket radio swap

Featured Replies

Hi, I currently have a Skoda Swing radio that I want to swap out for a single DIN radio that has Bluetooth. I am just a bit lost on what I need to buy so that I have everything required to install the after market stereo correctly. I have the after market stereo, a double din to single din adapter plate, Quad lock to ISO wiring harness adapter with antenna booster and I need a piggyback fuse ,so that I can have the radio turn off when I take the key out, right? I will need to buy another fuse for this right? First time doing any car electronics so I am a bit out of my depth here. I am using this topic below as a rough guide. Thanks

I’m not sure about piggyback fuses as the one I used came with a CAN connector that turned the unit off and on, but as for the double din plate, that may not fit as the Skoda unit isn’t actually din shaped, so you would need a VW to single Din Adapter. These usually come with a storage pocket to fill the gap. Something like the ones below. They also have the 4 screw holes to mount the frame in the holes behind the plastic surround of the Unit.

Also, the Fabia has two aerials, one in the windscreen, one on the roof, so you may need a double Fakra to single Fakra if your kit doesn’t come with it. 41FBE876-12EC-49EF-90EF-B0E006D9CAF6.thumb.png.08f5a5393b98c864391e379949b04b6d.png

hey will, took me awhile to sort mine out till someone helped me with this harness:

all you do is connect that to your stereo and program it then all set. instructions are with it.

i have made mine into single din too, put your single din plate in then your stereo and connect that harness and that is it. no need for any pggyback fuse, i bought some too but didnt need it with this harness.

Hi Froggy, I went ahead and bought the harness you linked, seems much better than other one I bought. Thanks alot for the info, I wasn't really looking forward to sticking different wires together and messing with fuses but I couldn't find any other posts that explained the best and easiest way to install an aftermarket stereo. Thanks again.

i had problems figuring which fuse to connect my piggyback fuse to so i just looked around for can-bus harness, the ones you can just connect. took me awhile to find that one, as soon as i got it,it literally took me few minutes to get it up and running, so easy :)

also it seems alot of people are struggling to add an aftermarket radio. stupid skoda set up :D

I got the new stereo installed today, It seems to be working fine however whenever I turn the key to on/off the ignition the stereo doesn't come on, I am guessing this is because I swapped a red and yellow wire. I also didn't get any fakra cable for the aerial so I think I need to buy a double to single fakra adapter.

The harness came with a loose orange wire aswell which I'm not sure what it does.

it only comes on when the engine is running.

Yeah I swapped the red and yellow bullet connectors thinking it was the right thing to do, when really I should've just left it. Sorted it now, just need to order an adapter for the aerial.

that is great! i couldnt find any other way to switch the unit on without starting the car up though.
