Wet Patch under car...paranoid?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I think I may just be paranoid, but I'm wondering if my water pump is leaking.

Long story short;

1.9 TDI 110bhp (ASV Engine)

Had cambelt and water pump done about 3 weeks ago.

A few days after, I started to get coolant light which would disappear when car got to 90 degrees

Checked the other day, realised coolant was a bit low and topped up - speaking my mechanic neighbour he said they won't have topped coolant up right when changing.

I keep noticing a white patch under the car in a morning, probably about as big as placemat

I need to open up the coolant header tank and check (when engine cools in a bit) but I'm just worried water pump is leaking.

Is there anyway I can check or is it buried?

Thanks

@LukeyP - The water pump is under the cam belt cover(s). If you think the pump is leaking you can look, but replacing the pump means a new cam belt as well.

Take it back to the garage

Is the coolant still dropping? Should be filled up to the seem on the bottle. If it wasn't bled properly then that to cause it to drop. Where is the patch on the floor in relation to the car, i.e under the water pump area?

The standard undertray on the TDi extends from the radiator to behind the block and full width. If that's still on Lukey's car any wet patch on the ground would be under the radiator or behind the engine,

Yeah, so it should be on the drivers side of the undertray. Just trying to narrow down area. Could do a quick look down at the bottom pulley in the engine bay and see if there are any fresh drips

It was relatively near to the offiside front wheel, although I moved the car this morning and nothing there - so I am starting to wonder if it is the air con?

Unfortunately I don't have an undertray...

OK. The a/c drain is on the LHS, and effectively produces distilled water.
