My Yeti Replacement

Featured Replies

Very nice.

There's a sense of satisfaction that goes with a new car.  Enjoy it!

The wait is reminiscent of the earlier Yeti days; the lead time was starting to come down slowly when I bought No.1 - just over five months then (2012).  I trust it was worth it.  The T Roc wouldn't suit me, I don't always duck enough getting into even the Yeti.

I am still contemplating my replacement. Initially considered an Arona, would prefer a T-Roc, but you do pay for the privilege / badge, (also considered a Q2, but even more!). Now considering a Suzuki Vitara as not really happy with the way VAG treat their customers for what are obviously design / manufacturing problems, also fancied a change after 15+ tears of buying Skoda, But then again 'suppose less of an issue if buying new....enjoy your new toy....nice colour!

I had a Suzuki Vitara many years ago and I hated it. It was like driving a tin can, but I'm sure they're very different now. Good luck in your search, the Yeti is a hard act to follow

Parked next to one by Nantes about 3 months ago had a look around the outside, seemed ok altjough the high gloss plastic finish around the cabin did not appeal to me, - finger prints etc

..agree, most of the alternative cars I have looked at all seem to have "cheaper" looking cabin plastics....

It is indeed.  I have two years' warranty remaining on mine, hence breathing space to consider its replacement.  The problem I face is - while Yeti may not be perfect, no other car ticks as many boxes for me.

Enjoy your new car, Marie.  It does look nice.

Just to throw a curve ball, I had a ride in a friends Kia Niro PHEV, remarkably good! Refined, quiet and smooth and on a 20 mile drive the engine didn’t kick in at all, just ran almost silently (weird) on battery power. Seemed to have every ’toy’ anyone could want and the cabin was a nice place to be. He charges it every night on a home charger sited outside his garage (garage full of junk like mine), takes seconds to connect and disconnect.

If I can’t find anything else to replace my Yeti next Spring I might well be tempted to buy one of those.

Niro seems like it might be my replacement, too. Lovely car, but just lacks the personality of a Yeti. I think, though, every car does!

Looking more and more likely going to be my replacement as well, although mine will be the self charging version, as I have no facilities to fit a charging point since we have to park in the road.

The only negative thing I have found talking to my friend is that the heating is powered only by the petrol engine, so on a cold morning the engine runs at about 2,000 RPM to heat up the coolant and hence supply hot water to the heater for the cabin. There is no electric heating at all which seems a strange omission. He says he is not too bothered because generally the engine only runs for about 10 minutes then shuts off when cabin reaches set temperature, that’s fine but I guess it must cut in again to reheat the coolant when the cabin temperature falls below that set.

At the end of the last millenium my team had an all electric Peugeot 106 as a pool car - we had some European money to try innovative "sustainability" inititiatives and this was one of them. I believe it was the only one operating outside Coventry because at the first service Peugeot seemed very surprised to find it was in Portsmouth. Every once in a while we had to pop in to the petrol station for 2 litres(!) of petrol becasue that what ran the heater. Well, in theory. Overall the car worked very well, quiet and reliable and very suited to stop/start city driving, but the heater was a constant problem so many cold drives in the winter although in fairness because it ws usually only used for short runs - up to 5 miles - a petrol equivalent probably wouldn't have been much warmer. I suspect the reason the Niro doesn't have electric heating is in winter it would hammer the batteries and so the effective range. But worry not, it will all be sorted by 2035.

(And sorry Marie for highjacking your thread).

Apology!

'But worry not, it will all be sorted by 2035.'

You rteckon?

Here a la frog (western Brittany)probably early this century , cannot remember exactly when, EDF(French Electricity) had a fleet of Peugeot cars for their staff to use, mainly in the bigger towns and cities, and guess what, you probably have, loads of charging points installed, but with the demise of the cars, yes, you've guessed it, the number of recharge points reduced as welll

...what happens when all 3/4 lanes of the motorway is blocked for hours in the Winter and we all drive electric cars?....perhaps there will be a resurgence of primus stoves? (But must tell your insurance :)  )

^^^ Hydrogen powered Snow Blowers and Ploughs / gritters, and prosecuting HGV's drivers and operators of these Convoy Lorries that are supposedly coming that ignore Red Weather Warning not to travel..

North of the Central belt of Scotland you will be only finding 2 lane Motorways and some without hard shoulders being blocked for hours or days by snow.

You get some miles of smiles or not on Dual Carriageways. The A9 Electric Highway is not so well sorted yet with a fair few Rapid Chargers near it out of order.

Maybe tomorrow that snowed up roads could be not just for EV's but petrols and diesels as well and people out without a hat coat, gloves and a thermos flask..

Just as well Peugeot / PSA have moved things on in 25 years.  Not that much on though.  93 mph max Speed & under 200 miles WLTP range and maybe 40% more in ECO mode if lucky,

just not in very cold weather.

2030 for Ireland, Netherlands, Denmark stopping the selling of New Petrols & Diesels, and 2045 for the Irish Republic not allowing Petrol & Diesel cars to pass an annual test.

Looks very smart Marie, Was your Jeep Orangey aswell ?😀

keep in touch tell us how you're getting on with it!

Marie - the reviews suggest the interior of the T-Roc and T-Cross are somewhat utilitarian with no soft touch materials for dash etc. How do you find the cabin ambience compared with the Yeti? Is the lack of soft touch materials noticeable and does it feel less luxurious than the Yeti? If you can remember the Yeti driving how would you compare refinement, comfort and cabin noise levels with the T-Roc?

Yes I had an orange Jeep Renegade in between the two Yetis. I seem to have a thing for orange cars 😃

I don't mind the lack of soft touch interior. I don't touch the dashboard often enough for it to be an issue.

Re. the driving comparison, I'll get back to you on that later in the week when I've driven more than the ten miles I've achieved so far 😜

I'm moving house soon so been really busy at home and not had much time for driving. I hope to get out a bit more this week and I'm also getting Michelin Cross Climates fitted to the T Roc on Thursday.

Look forward to your findings after you have driven a bit more than 10 miles!

Have you fixed on the CrossClimates? Might like to look at Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2, they have excellent reviews and are unbelievably quiet. I had a set fitted to my Yeti last Autumn and they certainly live up to the claims - comfortable, good roadholding etc and unbelievably quiet. I had Goodyear Efficientgrips for summer and Nokian D3’s  for winter but got tired of swapping wheels every 6 months so sold them for a set of 4 Seasons Gen 2’s; couldn’t believe the transformation in comfort and cabin noise.

I've already paid for the Michelins as they were 10% off. I did look at the Goodyears too and will keep them in mind for future.

Interested to learn what kind of deal the supplier gave you for swapping the new tyres on your T-Roc for the Michelins? Is the Michelin supplier buying the ‘new’ original tyres from you? Hopefully your outlay will be minimal as the difference between original tyres price and new Michelins price.

No they will only dispose of them not buy them. But I can sell locally and get something back.

That's my wee Yeti away 😭

BCA inspector said it's immaculate. Will be a nice car for someone else with only 14k on the clock.
