The high level brake light in the tail gate [estate car] has stopped working iv took it out and feed 12v direct to the light unit which works ok reading no power at connector for light

Is there a common place that fails on the wire ? and does this light have a separate fuse not in the dash fuse box?

If it was the twindoor I'd direct you to the thread that details the increasingly common issue with stretched and broken wires between the body and bootlid.

 

But given that yours is the estate I've never heard of similar issues.

 

It still might be worth checking inside the bellows in between the upper hinges for broken wires, and again checking for continuity.

 

Are there any other issues, i.e. interior boot lights not working etc?
