LED Light bar recommendations

Featured Replies

Hello!

I'm looking into getting a removable LED-light bar to use when going off road at night (forest tracks mostly).

The bar itself wouldn't be a permanent feature on my Rapid (would use either magnetic or suction mounts to attach to the bonnet) and having spoken to a couple of electronic-savvy people, wiring it all up to be removable wouldn't be an issue either (and get it to come on when dipped beams are on).

Budget wise I'm looking to spend about £50 .

So I'm interested to see what Light Bars people have, and which they would recommend? Looking into getting a light bar that does both floodlights and spotlights.

Surely it would be better to fit the light bar to the 4x4 that's towing your Rapid when you go off roading.....

A fast web search says that £50 might get you 2 cheap LED units; light bars are apt to be 5 to 10 times as much for the parts!

Probably makes more sense to just airlift it, but have to make the best of what you've got! :D

Read through some of the threads on here, and seen a few cheaper units being used, so no harm in asking :)

Rather than an LED lightbar why not go old school and get a decent set of driving lights fitted?  they are probably going to be a whole lot better than a cheap lightbar at that price...

A LED Light bar can be fitted discretely and still function well.

You get Number Plate brackets that they fit above or below and no need to go too big.

They are not tested or any concern of a MOT if on a separate switch and used only offroad or even onroad if there is nobody around to see them.

Full beam head-lights works pretty well on forest tracks if there is nobody there to be dazzled or even see them.

Take a look at aliexpress.com; light bars from £10 upwards delivered (https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=&SearchText=light+bar).

For example, here's a 44" 288W unit for £45.79 delivered from France.

You may have to ferret about to find a sucker-based unit or perhaps separate suckers.

Some good deals on there!

I've found separate suckers/magnets are available on eBay/Amazon at a decent price.

It's a good suggestion, but I'm just not a fan of the look of driving lights.

My front number plate is glued on which is why I'm an alternative fixing method!

It'll be completely removable so won't need to worry about the MOT side of things.

The full beams aren't bad, but just after something that provide a bit of extra light (similar to the posts from our Swedish/Finnish members).

Does that mean your Registration plate is on forever and any replacements will be getting stuck on top of that one?

Can you tell me please where these forest roads and rights of ways are that you can drive at the sort of speeds that Swedish / Finnish members might be driving.

?

Are you going rallying with your re-mapped Skoda Rapid?

I'd like to think it's on forever, be a shame if it fell off!

Does it matter where I go?

Rallying it? Now there's an idea...

Eat your carrots then and you will see just fine at up to 20mph on forest tracks.

You could get a Lamping Light and plug it into the cigarette lighter / 12v socket and sorted.

I'll bear those suggestions in mind! :D

288w +another 200 for headlamps. That's 40A and not allowing for other electrics. OK,  if you've got a 90A alternator. Just thinking
