Radio Not Working

Featured Replies

The Amundsen radio in my 2017 Yeti has stopped working. When turned on all you see is the Skoda logo which fades after a few minutes, no sound. Reversing camera works intermittently, sometimes it comes on but goes off after a few seconds, other times doesn’t come on at all. I can’t get into the Dealer until mid March so wondered if anyone has had this problem and found an easy way to cure it. I have done the usual of holding the on/off button in for 10+ seconds to reboot the system but no luck. Over the past year the radio has had a few problems in that when turned on there was sound but the screen stayed blank - pressing the on/off button to reset usually cleared that up.

Now I have no radio, no reversing camera (funny how dependent you get on that) and no hands free phone.

Anyone any ideas?

Try removing the battery positive lead for about a minute, It's worked on mine when it's got it's knickers in a twist.

is your reset system the same as pulling the no. 8 fuse in the engine bay? - might be worth a try!

Thanks, tried removing fuse 8 for 5 mins, no difference to Radio so disconnected battery for 5 mins.  Neither has made any difference, radio still not working.

Any other ideas, or is it wait till I can get to Dealer?

Also supplied by fuse 13 at end of dash.

Okay I will try that - but I would have thought that disconnecting the battery would remove all sources of power from the radio?

Could it be that fuse 13 has blown preventing the radio from booting?

I will have a look tomorrow - but would the reversing camera work (sometimes) if the fuse was blown?

I had a fuse which had a split where the fuse bit connected to the spade causing intermittent operation, not om the radio but another circuit, detected it with a multimeter connected across the spades and gently bending the fuse body thus breaking the circuit!

Tried that this morning - replaced with spare fuse - no difference! Guess I will just have to wait till I can get  car into Dealers in March.

Update - Took the Yeti in for service and investigation of non working radio yesterday. Phone call from them yesterday afternoon saying that unfortunately they wouldn’t finish all the radio diagnostic checks and complete service/MOT/brake fluid and A/C service by close so asked me to keep their courtesy car overnight and they would contact me as soon as they had finished all investigations etc. Call this morning to say that, as suspected, the radio is kaput but that replacement radios were on back order so unable to guarantee when I would get a replacement. The service manager was great in keeping me updated with developments and when I picked the car up this afternoon it was all cleaned inside and out. He also said that they were very sorry for the delay and as soon as they could get hold of a replacement radio they would call me and then would fit it while I waited.

I guess that because of the coronavirus disaster there must be some doubt over the availability of spares, a very minor irritation in the big view of things!

Replacement radio fitted on 28 May on return from Lockdown and availability of unit. Everything now working apart from Smartlink which requires a code to activate, booked in for a "fix while you wait” next week.

Strangely the thing I missed most was the reversing camera, funny how you get used to things like that and miss them when they aren’t there.
