Looking to buy an Octavia vrs

Budget of max 4k, am I unrealistic in thinking I could get a reasonable tdi octavia vrs for this money? Must have isofix for car seat. Thinking tdi as often do 80 mile + trips for work and seeing family.  Don't mind high miles obvs. Any car examples you could recommend would be great please? 

I have an Octavia vRS 2l turbo MY18 petrol. Odo 20,000 kms.  I'm not sure what the term isofix means so can't help there but I would question your need for a diesel now the latest generation petrol engines are getting very close in terms of economy. Two days ago I did a two way fuel consumption check over 40 kms (20kms each way) on the Bruce Hwy mostly in the 110km/hr zones. I've found the trip computer very accurate and recorded 5.7 to 5.8 l/100. From experience I know the readings would drop further in the 100 zones probably under 5.5. Mixed city/highway driving  since new has been about 7.5l/100.

With stop and go driving in the city you may get 8.5l/100 or over. All figures quoted were measured between fill ups. Your results will vary with different driving habits and localities . I've always used ron98.

Isofix is a method used for fastening child booster seats in the rear seats. The child seats have special clips witch clip onto hooks within the rear seats.

£3,500 will definitely get you a MkII vRS, £4,000 - £4,500 will get you a facelift MkII vRS.

 

What's your annual mileage? All vRS's at this price will have high mileage, 100,000 miles plus, and they all have DPF's (Diesel Particulate Filters) which will likely be getting into problematic territory.

 

The pre-FL vRS (pre-2008) are the PD engine (Pump Dusse) and really don't get on well with their DPF's, 2008> pre-FL and all facelift vRS's are CR (Common Rail) and benefitted from a catalyst to help the DPF do its thing, and as such such much less DPF related issues.

 

The odd 80 mile trip won't be enough to keep a worn DPF clear, you need to be doing relatively consistent speeds and a decent mileage daily to keep them clear.

 

If your mileage is less than 15,000 / 20,000 miles annually I'd be seriously tempted to find a petrol version. No DPF or EGR to worry about. Remember, although the fuel economy won't be as good, the cost of petrol itself is much less, as are generally the running costs, so diesels aren't always the best option for average mileage.

 

A nice looking vRS on budget, private sale though so no warranty / comeback. It has factory front and rear parking sensors too, a nice bonus. The alloys are shot though so they'll need a refurb. The advert mentions winter wheel and tyres for it are available suggesting he's a sensible sort of guy...

The price is high and it is a pre-facelift and therefore nearly 15 years old, but it is in absolutely mint condition! Petrol too, so a bonus in my eyes. Rear parking sensors Climatronic and Maxidot all factory fitted options, and I love the green brake calipers found on early MkII vRS's...

If you do go for a petrol, be sure to read this first...

 

 

A vRS HAS to be Race Blue though, so I'd go look at this one...

Although looking at he photos it has rear parking sensors (good) and the factory fitted detachable towbar (good or bad, good if you need to tow, possibly bad if it has been used to drag a caravan around all summer). Other warning flags are the blown bulb warning (who advertises a car, and takes photos with an orange warning light on the dash!?), and the fact the RPM is sat at 1,000rpm with an almost to temperature coolant, suggesting it is trying to regenerate the DPF,

If possible try to find one with the retractable headlight washers under the headlights, these are fitted when the car is fitted with the expensive optional factory fitted xenon headlights, a must for me.
