Lane assist

Featured Replies

Brings to mind one of my early Advanced Driving Courses when my instructor asked to whom I was signalling, had I seen something that he hadn't? 🙂

  • Although, with the 'lane assist', the pain is in a different place ......................

  • only comes on at 37 mph all new cars will have this feature

  • Interesting to read this as I have a VW T-Cross and feel that LA has been implemented too aggressively. Also not having a dedicated button to switch it off us a pain. It should be a good safety featur

@Tilt @longedge - Exactly. Looking in a mirror is irrelevant unless you act on what you see. Signalling is irrelevant unless you have someone to signal to, and who will benefit from you signalling. For example, if you have just completed an overtake and are moving in a lane, then a signal is only useful if there is a road user other than the one you have just overtaken who is in a position to see your signal

Of course you need to check that it is safe before signalling, however, this thread is about the lane assist not how to obey the highway code.

I simply mentioned that if you signal the lane assist does not activate and everyone gets over excited about the fact that I hadn't mentioned about checking it is safe to change lanes.

Quite frankly if this is what the forum is about you can keep it. I'm out of here.

You said, "if it does activate it means you're changing lanes without indicating" and I strongly disagree with that statement.

It might have been better to say that one of many possible causes etc. etc.

I wouldn't worry about it too much bud.

Folk will pull you up about things you say (you = everybody) and if they have a point they wish you to explain, then fair enough imo.

What I don't understand is folk making stuff up or making out you said something when you didn't....I couldn't see where you said that you thought it safe to change lanes by indicating without looking, but someone else thinks you did.

Or quoting one of your posts and what they put has nothing to do with what you posted.........Never mind...

I guess that would be me then? :)

New kamiq in the pipeline and I never thought there would be an issue with LA.  Stop Start was a problem I experienced constantly having to switch it off until I gave up and then gradually got used to it. So  LA might be the same although it does sound like a bit of a *******s.

Lane assist does not turn on till you reach 37 mph so around town should not matter unless you are speeding. I only turn it off on motorways sometimes

I had a serious back injury many years ago and have constant sciatic pain in my left leg, I learned to live with it even though I didn't want it in the same way that I'll learn to live with unwanted lane assist 😁

@skoda1982

Even villages can have sections with 40 mph speed limits, and towns 50 & 60 mph speed limits...

Lane Assist also relies on the road markings and white lines.

Given that the potholes around here have swallowed most of the white paint up, and the paint on the motorways has largely worn away without sufficient funds to repaint it, I'd guess the feature might become even more redundant.

The first time it kicked in on me was on a straight moorland road with no lines or markings on it whatsoever.

A prime example of how it's easily confused.

I have this on my Scala SEL DSG as far as I am concerned it is a pile of dangerous poo along with the lack of proper heater controls, who thought up going into a computer screen to adjust the  the heater or air con really scary at 70mph. I know you can use it on auto mode but that is not ideal also the air vents are not fully adjustable anymore.

Sorry I have poked my nose in from the Scala forum but it id dead over there and basically the the Kamiq is a Scala on stilts.

The knobs turn if you want air con press the Max button all temp to low. if you want heat turn the knobs to temp. set to auto fan speed adjusts to temp. I only do menu if i want to adjust fan speed just tap not slide or turn ac off

Oooh with a few weeks to go before collecting my Kamiq, I really can't wait to experience the thrill of an unprompted LA nudge ..... I didn't experience it all during my hour plus test drive, but the descriptions on the previous posts if sounds more like an irritating passenger grabbing the steering wheel ...  I'm sure there'll be an awful lot of feedback collected by VW/Skoda etc about this feature and a possible software update may be something to look forward too

At least you have the advantage over me when I first had mine of knowing about it in advance so that if/when it kicks in you won't  be caught unawares 😀

I still suspect this may be a 'wtf' type moment when it happens ... must remember to take a photo if it puts me thru a hedge ...

I said I was done with this topic but....

I thought I'd drop back to it as I have got used to the lane assist (kind of) and I have to say it has made me reappraise my driving - being more conscious about indicating before lane changes.

However, one thing that is a constant irritation is the car telling me to take control of the steering. I have both hands on the wheel, just because I haven't had to make any steering input does not mean I'm not in control of the steering. Does anyone else find this drives them up the wall?

Lane assist is there to stop you driving up the wall 😂😂😂

No that's front assist, surely!  🤪

As much as I find lane assist annoying, it has never asked me to take control of the steering wheel when my hands are already on it.

front assist, lane assist,  what else ?   Sounds like its going to be annoying.  I will be like Basil Fawlty shouting back at it   ' yes yes I AM in control.'  then giving it a good thrashing !  lol.
