Head Units

Featured Replies

Morning Guys

Can anyone give me an idea which head unit i have, the dash has the smaller screened display, and the unit in the glove box has both a CD slot and 2 SD card slots.

Would it be easy enough to change the dash unit to the bigger display unit?

My car is a 2014 VRS with sat nav and bluetooth if that helps

Thanks

Sounds like a MIB1 Amundsen and no, sadly these radios do not take the bigger screens and changing the radio unit is far from plug and play. It’s very doable but budget around £500 for an unlocked MIB2 Columbus now the MIB2 Amundsen is no longer a cost effective retrofit, and another £2-300 for a good 8 inch screen. If you find a bundle from an outlet that trades in these units so much the better.

Thanks Sasha, I had seen that you had swapped yours but couldn't remember which bit of your epic thread you had done it on, if I was to get hold of a Columbus and 8 inch screen would they require coding in?

Screen would be plug and play once the main unit is working. Going from a standing start you'll need to install the unit to trigger component protection. Then take the car to a willing dealer to remove CP for £50-80. Then remove the unit and send it to @pab567 along with the original to have it coded and any extras you want (smartlink etc.). Screens can stay at home. You'll be without the unit for 1-2 weeks but it's worth it.

For all those who make SW upgrade

1. Do you really need an update? Keep in mind there is ALWAYS a risk of bricking the unit (especially MIB1).

2. Format SD card or USB pendrive under FAT32.

3. Unzip software file to SD card or USB pendrive you prepared, Make sure it is unzipped to root folder - all the folders and metainfo file must be placed directly in the root.

4. Start update via service menu (long press MENU button).

Done a nice upgrade today to replace my old 6 inch Amundsen with an 8 inch Columbus, makes a big difference to the interior.

The new screens are lovely but just so you know that’s a MIB2.5 Amundsen screen, not a Columbus one :)

Haha that sounds better so i'll take it 🤣🤣🤣 works perfect anyway

5E0919605M thats the part number, i thought it was 8" columbus

No, MIB2.5 Amundsen. The old MIB2 Columbus is 5E0919606 and has soft keys. The 9.2 inch Columbus has no swivel wheels and is part number 5E0919606D.

Payed £99 delivered so i'm well happy, thanks for the info

Not at home, a software update won’t help you with this anyway. If you have a MIB2 with SmartLink in the menu then you need to nip to the dealer and hand over £137 to have it activated and yes AA on the Octavia works with the Note 10.

Phone software and head unit software are completely separate.  Also note 9 update ill not work on note 10.

As Sasha says, you will need a dealer to sort the smartlink.  worth it though.
