@DeepK

Did you happen to check the oil level after the last service when stone cold and at operating temperature, then anytime before now since the service?

Yes.I am always keeping an eye on oil level never waiting for oil light to come on

I have a TFSI BWA engined VRS and my usage is minimal, I can’t even remember if I’ve topped it up since the last service 🥴

it’s on 100k now, last service was when I got it in the beginning of October last year, it’s used daily but only locally mainly.

Thats preaty good.I have CCZA and i tought that i am doing well with it.I know someone who owns A4 2009 model i think, whith 2.0 TFSI and 100000 on clock so he adding a 1l of oil every 1000 miles.

Yea I’ve been happily surprised too, it’s had a stage 1 map as well, I know a friend with the BUL engine in an 05-06 plate a4 and he moans about its oil usage.

anyone know what the full amount is between min and max? It’s usually around a litre in engines I’ve had before.

i haven’t checked the level in a few weeks tbh, it’s been as good as gold with fluid levels since I replaced the stat housing with an oem one, I’ll check later and see how much it’s moved on the dipstick 👍

For the record, I have never topped up between services, and I'm on 70,000+, owned since new in 2007

diesel or petrol? To be fair I think this mainly relates to petrol engines.

but I’m sure the TFSI BWA engine is not known for using oil like the TSI engine 🤔

Are you sure?  I had a 07 TFSI VRS for 7 years that used about 1.5 litres between services. My MkIII TSI  didn't use a drop over 4 years and neither did the Golf GTI TSI which I recently drove for 6000 miles. The TFSI was a fantastic car but every winter replicated symptoms of a head gasket failure with tons of 'mayo' under the bottom of the oil filler cap, caused by condensation. This also doesn't happen with the TSI.

There were problems with piston rings production in BWA EA888 Gen 1 for periods (refer TSBs), also Gen 2, CCZA 2.0tsi had very poor oil scraper ring design as well until very late in production, mid 2012, also they were prone to failure main timing chain tensioner. Shared with the 1.8.

Gen 3 seemed to resolve most of not all of these issues. My gen 2, vRS, CCZA uses no more than 0.5l  to 0.8L in 8000 miles.  But I know I'm lucky and I always change 12 months or about 7k or 8k miles. with VW 502.00.

The ea888 gen 2 does not like the extended variable service regime....

It's a diesel, and I do all my own servicing, as I'm a technician.

did they do a BWA EA888 engine? As my BWA is the EA113 engine with a cam belt not a chain.

Yes. You're right. But there were production problems with the bwa as well, issues with tolerances at point of manufacture.

I think it also depends what quality oil you are using and how often you change it,to keep engine in good condition and slow down that oil ring wear out.Plus how you drive while engine is cold. For example i always change gears at 2000 rpm on cold engine until it reaches 90 degrees its better for engine and turbo. My oils to go for is Liqui Molly,Motul and Mobile, oil change every 5000 miles.

@DeepK   Really it depends on if you got landed with a Lemon of an engine or not as many did with Euro 5 TSI's.

A good engine can happily go 10,000 miles with any oil producers oil of the correct spec or 18,000-20,000 miles and maybe just the occasional top up depending on usage of the car.

Gubbed engines with excessive oil use are just that.   It is good if people know how to check the oil level and do not leave it to go that low that the oil has to work harder to lube and cool and then they wait for a warning light.

Waiting for more lads to come on here saying "my car never uses a drop". Either not checking correctly or lying. 😉

I have a 2012 TSI Octavia VRS. 75000 miles and uses around .5l every 1000 miles or so.

If the not checking/lying refers to my post, the older TFSI and MkII TSI do use oil, especially my TFSI.  The newer generation TSI used in the MkIII don't, at least not the 2 I have owned on 10K servicing.  Even at stage 1 and occasional enthusiastic use,  my MkIII oil was always in the correct grid on the dipstick every week,  I have still got the free bottle of 5-30W from buying it new in Jan 2015. Having grown up and worked in a motorbike and then car business with an engineer father, I also live by the mantra, if you check/change the oil properly the car will look after you.

This is the mk2 forum

@bridgovrs  You happened to have an excessive oil user

. If they all did that there would have been more done about it, as it is some accepted that. No idea why though.  At 0.5 litres in 1,000 miles Skoda actually provided people with oil while an official consumption test was carried out.  If you moaned enough that is, and did not just keep topping up at your own expense.

07 Tfsi with BWA engine.

Overdue a yearly service by 3 months, but only covered 5k since the last one so going to wait until its a little warmer and drier to do it myself. No oil used but have needed to top up the coolant a few weeks ago as it had hit the min line.

117k miles

I just had to go out and top the washer fluid up in the cars so did a coolant and oil check too.

The oil was full still, I can’t even remember the last time I checked it and it’s been in since the beginning of September.

I took a photo but I do realise this isn’t exactly hard evidence, you’ll just have to take my word for it 🤣
