Columbus 8 inch - volume issue

Featured Replies

Hello fellow Superb owners, I'm just wondering if any of you has come across what seems like a bug to me, where in upon ignition the volume of whatever source I happen to be on will not turn up..

only down until muted. In order to break out of this it is necessary to switch to another audio source, i.e. radio, and then back to my music on the SD card.  This seems to break it out and allow me to turn the volume up.

This happens 100% of the time when starting the car, so I have to do this as part of my routine before my journey.

I did try resetting by holding down the power button until the unit restarted, this fixed the issue for a few days then it resumed its old ways.

Has anyone encountered this?

Which head unit do you have? Mine is Columbus with 8" display. Can't say I've noticed what you describe, but I have noticed the volume scroll wheel doesn't work unless the engine is running, but the volume control on the unit itself does. Have you tried adjusting the volume via the unit?

Hello Jeff, I also have the Columbus with 8 inch display.  Yes I've tried both the scroll wheel and the head unit.

Reseting the head unit fixes it the bug for a few days (at the cost of losing all my preferences). Volume can also go down from either scroll wheel or head unit. Just not up. :/

Sounds like it's common to us two at least! @Rustynuts sorry to disturb but I know you are the ICE guru - any thoughts on this one?

Just a thought...can't you set the 'maximum volume when turned on' in the sound settings?  Perhaps there's a time limit which it gets locked, after starting the car?  Might be worth adjusting that setting and rechecking the behaviour.

Mine does something similar. Occasionally if I adjust the volume immediately after starting the car I can see the volume indicator come up on the screen but it won’t actually go up or down. It seems to be some sort of delay as the software ‘loads’. I’m making this assumption because if I leave it alone for 20 seconds or so and then adjust the volume it works fine.

I've had this issue when I've used android auto media on the car, and tried to turn the volume up only for it to get 'stuck'. Switch to the radio and it's fine, but it's just on the AA, requiring a full turn off, ignition off and then ignition on again. I had the same issue in my Fabia with AA too.

This is interesting, I wasn't aware of that setting I'll look into that one and report back my findings.

This differs from mine as it starts off at about 10% volume and I am allowed to go down but not up. I'll look to see if 20 seconds makes a difference without switching source.

Just to add some behaviour, if my volume gets lowered by the sensors it does not return to the pre-sensor volume again but instead stays lowered until I manually turn it up again.

Does anyone else have this behaviour ?  I'm wondering now if there is some flash update I can do that might resolve these issues.
