4 week old Kamiq

Featured Replies

So where do I start.

We got our new Kamiq 4 weeks ago and since then it’s been back twice to the garage and is about to go back for the third time.

1st time, the infotainment system crashed 8 times during a 40 minute drive to work. Went back in and the team did something after speaking to Skoda Tech. Job done after a few days. Yeah

About 5 days later, the SatNav started playing up saying we were 20 miles away from where we were but kept trying to put us on roads in that area. Skoda connect App showed the car in this location also In comparison to where we were. Garage had car for about a week and did ‘something’ and we got it back.

A few days later, we’ve started having the sameSatNav issue. Skoda connect puts car in one place, SatNav puts it in another and we’re elsewhere! It’s going back again tomorrow but I’m at the end of my tether with this

Has anyone had any similar issues with their Kamiq? I’m gutted because we love the car, but we’ve spent more time in courtsey cars in the last month then our own!

As all of the faults seem to be connected to the infotainment system and the dealer has had 2 goes at fixing it already and it is still broken, I would reject the car and ask the dealer to find you a car that works properly.  That will certainly focus their minds.

This ^^^^^^^

i speak from some experience of another marque which went into the dealer 9 times in 3 months all based on similar faults. They even changed the entire infotainment system at a “cost” of £3,600 and it still wasn’t right. The conclusion was that there was a fault somewhere in the wiring that would be all but impossible to trace.

i fear you are in the same territory and if it was my car, I’d start the formal rejection process. As I said above, I let it drag on for 3 months and 9 attempts but would not do so again.

good luck, hopefully you have a good relationship with your dealer who will work with you, not against you with the rejection.

Skoda connect puts car in one place, Sat nav puts it in another and you're elsewhere.

When your car was being repaired, what courtesy car did they give you and did the Sat Nav / Skoda Connect work as it should have in that car?

I’ve spoken to Skoda today and apparently there has been an issue with connect for a week now...which would explain the issue. My Connect hasn’t updated since last Friday night. Not sure if anyone else has had an issue.

They’ve put me in a Kamiq with no SatNav each time. Had the same issue today. Have taken a photo of SatNav and Google Maps to show difference. Hopefully they find something!

Dealer is brilliant. He explained about a process where they can have three attempts to fix the car and then I can reject it so we’ve agreed that they can have one more go and then we’ll see where we get too!

I personally think that Skoda Connect along with similar systems from other manufacturers which provide solutions to questions nobody asked, is a utter crap.  But if someone came to me with the issue you're having, the first question I'd be asking myself is this problem peculiar to your car or every car? It doesn't take an Einstein to loan you another car with Sat Nav to see if the problem remains.

If they're now saying it could be Skoda Connect that's the problem after having your car for a whole week :o  then I'm sorry but they sound incompetent. If it is Skoda Connect that's the problem then there would be no point in rejecting the car. In fact I don't think there would be any legal basis for rejection ( it's not a serious enugh problem ) rather you'd be given compensation.

PS - You're covered by the 2015 Consumer Act and your dealer knows it. There is no such thing as 'having three attemps', especially if the problem was reported within the first 4 weeks.

I'm having similar problems trying to get Connect in my Karoq to talk to my iPhone,  wonder if you have the phone number at Skoda and I will ring them?

skoda connect issue is a separate issue from the SatNav issue....sigh.

This is great. If the dealer is working with you - as mine did - the whole process is much smoother.

I don’t know “legally” whether he does really get 3 goes but that is irrelevant really.

The practicality of the situation is that he has already accepted that if the next fix doesn’t work, its rejection time and it sounds like he’ll be with you rather than fighting against you. Ultimately the most stress free way of sorting this is by working together for the result as opposed to getting solicitors involved and going all legal.  That’s really the last resort if the dealer starts obstructing the process, which from your post is unlikely to happen.

Not sure if the dealer principal is involved but it’s definitely worthwhile getting to know them as the salesman might say one thing but be over ruled. So it would be best to be negotiating with the dealer principal direct. (Luckily I’m retired* so was able to make an appointment to see the dealer principal initially, explained what the situation was, and asked for his help to arrive at a solution we were both happy with. Very much “business to business” approach rather than “ranting customer” and all went well.)

* meaning I could sort this without having to take time off work, cram into workday schedules etc. If I was working my relaxed approach throwing a lot of time at the problem would have been more difficult

Thanks for your message! Thankfully it is the dealer principle I’m working with on this which is a positive!

The car got broken into last week (will it ever end!) and he is helping source replacement glass as well as my insurance is being useless telling me it could be 6/7 weeks! Very helpful and has said we’ll sort the glass out first then look at the rest.

fingers crossed!!

got on the chatline this morning and Skoda confirm that the the problem is with them and the service has been down for a week or so hopefully back next week they will email me when back up (I hope) and I will post when that happens.  Connect works in the car but not on the iPhone he said that would be correct due to the OCU or something.

I set mine up yesterday evening and, as far as I can see, everything is working except for lock/unlock which has to be sorted by dealership after verification so I'm waiting on a reply to my email about that.

Having set it up, I now have to decide whether it's of any use 😁

p.s. I have an iPhone 6s+ by the way.

My phone is an 8 and I’m still having issues

iPhone model is probably irrelevant but mine is on IOS 13.3.1 also Apple Car Play and phone calls work perfectly.

p.s. when setting up Skoda Connect the activation process stalled a couple of times at the 'registering both keys' stage but it did work, whole process took me about 40 minutes. Seems like the sort of thing that gets easier every time you do it.

One thing that got me scratching my head was when it aske me to turn on the ignition, I started the engine and that seemed to work but I thought to myself, when I'm sitting in the car with the keys in my pocket, isn't the ignition always on???

To have lock and unlock the dealer has to verify its you by you showing them your driving licence to take info off to add to your Skoda ID

Yes, and according to the reply email I got it has to be done electronically in the workshop so that's a job for next week.

Well, finally got my answer to the Skoda Connect App not working on my iPhone.  As the error message (see image) says I phoned Skoda Infoline and spoke to a gentleman who took my details and phoned me back.  Apparently Skoda Connect elements, Vehicle Status, Doors and Lights and Driving Data will never work on the App because it is not built into the Karoq models only works on the Kamiq, Kodiaq and Superb.  Of course to set up Skoda connect for the Trip Planner element you have to download the app to sign in what made me think my set up was wrong was the error message if it had said 'not available on some models' that would have made a difference.   Can't say i'm not disappointed because I am what's the point of installing the sim card? 'it can be used for a hotspot' the man said 'but already have that on my iPhone' i replied.   It is what it is, just have to accept it and move on after all it does work in the car itself.

When I was on the phone to Skoda today, I was interested to learn that they have direct access to all my vehicle data for instance he knew the last time I'd used the car, how far, location etc. etc.

I suppose that is a downside.

It's not an issue for me, don't mind anybody knowing when I've been to the shop and it'd make tracing a stolen vehicle a lot easier but I can imagine scenarios where perhaps you might not want your movements to be on record 😁
