Random locking & unlocking while driving

Featured Replies

So today my car became possessed. These are symptoms:

Drivers side door would not unlock with fob at the start of the day. I unlocked manually and then it behaved.

I have noticed the red light next to drivers pop up lock button is constantly on. I don't think that is normal.

At one point whilst driving, the car locked and unlocked itself about 5 times!

I just parked up and all 4 windows wound down.

Any ideas? Driver lock mech failure?

micro switch in the drivers door lock mech starting to fail, or..

water in the multiplug of the wiring harness to the door or

worn out wires in the cable of said harness between body and door.

Thanks. I suspect the lock mech as so far I've changed 2 of the 4!

I had this on my Mk1 and it was water in the multi plug.

I removed trim and looked at the multi plug and no sign of water. So I thought I would clean with contact cleaner and leave to dry. On reconnecting the car won't turn over. I assume this is immobiliser related? Help!

do you have a second key to try?

is it starting the electrics but just wont fire?

Yep I have a second key. Is this to do with having a master key? The dash lights up but literally nothing happens when i turn to start the engine.

I tried the 2nd key (which stopped working remotely some years ago when I replaced the battery) and when I turn the ignition I hear a rear lock doing something and occasionally a relay clicking in the dash.

It has nothing to do with the immobilizer. If that was the case, the engine will start for 2-3 seconds then will die.

Most probably you messed up something during contacts cleaning. Start by checking the fuses.
