Tailgate Lock

Featured Replies

Hi,

My tailgate latch has failed, would the all electric latch work with the manual type latch? ie I push the button to open the tailgate and lift it, not the electric lift version that lifts on its own

I’m not sure what you are asking, Adrian.  I don't see how you could put both the electric latch and a manual latch together on the same tailgate.  Or why you’d want to.

Some Kodiaqs have the electric tailgate closing mechanism (which lowers the tailgate to the closed position) and some don’t. I think (I might be wrong?) that all Kodiaqs have an electric latch, though - that locks and unlocks when you operate the central locking, and that releases the tailgate when you press the rubber patch just above the number plate.

In any case, how old is your Kodiaq?  The vast majority are still within the 3 year warranty, so any failed latch should be a matter for a dealer to fix.

Hi Dave,

Sorry it was a little unclear, the rear windscreen got smashed with a flying object during the high winds, this caused glass to get into the lock, which caused the lock to stick closed as the selanoid could not release the catch. (I don't have an electric tailgate). The Skoda dealer told me there was a problem with the rubber switch and replaced it. (£132)

2 days later the catch failed and it would not hold it shut. Another visit to Skoda revealed that was faulty and fitted a temporary one they had from another Kodiaq which was supposed to be faulty but would get be by until a replacement was delivered, this is working fine, but not the correct one for mine as the one it came off one with the electric tailgate. The service department told me that i need to get a new lock from them.

The fitter told me the temp lock. he fitted seems to be ok for my car as the electric tailgate part of the lock was not needed, which was causing the issue for the previous owner?

I hope that this is a little clearer

Adrian

Ah, I see.

it sounds to me as though the combination you have is working ... so why not leave it like that?

What the technician told you seems to make sense. The latch for Kodiaq's with the electrically opening / closing boot is different to that of a Kodiaq with a manual boot lid, but by fitting the latch for the electrically operated boot to your manual boot means it works fine as the extra part / functional capability needed for the electrically operated boot is simply redundant.

Saying that, have you already paid them for the original replacement that was faulty? If so then I'd be wanting the proper latch fitted, to rule out any currently undetected but potential future issues that might arise from having the wrong latch fitted.
