Octavia FSI - Fast!!!

Featured Replies

Was following an Octavia FSI today (Red I, I think, so does that mean it's a 2.0?) in my old Octavia 1.8T (150BHP), and well, to be honest, couldn't keep up with it!

Very impressed! Maybe next car...

Could be a re-mapped Okty 1 or 2, or your's could just be under powered!

Nah, it was a newish Octy 2 and non-turbo FSI so a remap wouldn't do that much anyway.

Power and torque of a 2.0 FSI are similar to the base 1.8T anyway, but I was still impressed

Both 150 bhp, not suprising, the FSi does pull well.

I didn't know they did a 150 turbo Mk 1? The 180 vRS I had definitely had a bit more of a punch in the back, but my current FSI is certainly nicer to drive quickly - better feel and handling by far.

Recently got to drive the 2.0 FSI when my Mk1 vRS was in for its 40K service, I was impressed with the build quality and the handling for a 'non sporting' car , and to be honest I didn't really notice the missing 30HP (but then I drive like a granny anyway :) )

Indeed they did, both 2wd and 4wd.

Interesting tho. I wonder how my 2.0TDI would fair against a 2.0FSI. I managed to keep up with the lads in their Mk1 Octy vRS's on the motorway.

Surely the point is that hardly anyone is ever driving to capacity. If you are "keeping up" with a potentially faster car, he is driving at, say, 70%, while you are driving at 80%. Both are comfortable. Other than that you might only tell by a traffic light drag, or a winding road where his acceleration out of curves might be better.

elegance/L&K/4x4 wasn't it available as 150bhp?

Those 2.0FSi's are not particulary quick at all. I've driven a few and they always leave me unimpressed, the problem is you expect the performance from the old 150bhp 20v and it just doesn't deliver, however the fuel economy is rather good for a 2.0 petrol.

2.0 16v TDi is far far superior than the FSi.

Yep, all of those models were fitted with a de-tuned 1.8T. Hence many people remap them to 200bhp+ just like the VRS.

The thing about my 2.0FSI is that it is changing much more than anything else I've run in from new. Trouble is my mileage is so low these days that it is going to take another 8-12 months I reckon before I know what it is really like - under 7000 miles at present. Every 500 or so seems to still be making it better, but you do have to keep the revs up in the lower gears - and I'm not sure there is any point to the 6 speed box.
