Cigarette lighter no power

Featured Replies

hi, no power to cig lighter, changed fuse 47 but still nothing ,is there anything I've missed

Does it only work with the ignition on?

Are the cigarette lighter contacts dirty?

Have you tried a voltmeter on the contacts?

Thanks AG Falco

Yes it only works with ignition, contacts are clean and yes I’ve put a voltmeter on the contacts and got no reading

thanks

David

The 12volt accessory socket on my 2010 fabia estate is permanently live. ie. ignition doesn't need to be turned on.

Did you check that the old fuse was blown?

Have you rechecked the fuse to make sure that the new fuse that you put in hasn't blown again?

Old fuse wasn’t blown and new fuse not blown either .. I’ve removed the ploughing from the bottom of the cigarette lighter and tested it for current but nothing there so it’s not the cig lighter unit either ... I’m puzzled as to what it could be

That should read “ plug “

@DavidRH Has it worked before, that you know of??? Is this your car???

How long have you had this car?..........The car details may help a little further, ie age, model, engine etc......

When you say "Cig lighter", do you mean the accessory plug, down by the handbrake. If memory serves me well, they are not actually ciggy lighters and if needed, you spec that from new and there may well be a slight difference then just popping in a ciggy lighter. They sell you a smokers pack and at the very least, INPLY the socket is for plug in electrical, not fag lighters, which MAY need a different socket. Not sure if this is for fire/heat reasons or just company B.S, to make you buy more bits n bobs.

So are you trying it with a ciggy lighter or something such as a sat nav or phone charger, etc?

Car is a 12 plate 1.4 petrol 23k had it 6 months,

Mrgf .. I know what you mean, we are non smokers so just using the socket for phone charging etc , I don’t think it’s ever been used as a proper cig lighter as it looks clean and unburnt also there was no actual push down thing with the car.

Yes the socket worked fine until last week

@DavidRH

Have you tried another device or adaptor in it?  Just asking because i used to use the socket on a Mk2 vRS's and the crap adaptors i get from Amazon / Ebay would give up the ghost.

I never learn, i keep buying them as if i have good ones they get pinched / lost.

If it's not the fuse and there is no power to the (ploughing) plug (I assume you refer to the electrical socket connector) then logic would say wiring fault / break........

Did any other electrical item give up the ghost at the same time?

No just this one

Ensure you have checked / changed the right fuse, the labelling on the cover is not that great and can be easily interpreted upside down.
