Which code reader, which cable?

Featured Replies

I have a 2005 Fabia 1, 1.4 100 PS. I would like to get VCDS but I am not sure which version to download - VCDS lite, VCDS full, which cable (HEX-NET, HEX-V2, VAG KKL)... and how much is all costs.

Any advise is welcome on VCDS or another coder reader.

Thanks

There is only limited coding you can do on a 2005 Fabia. Either of the VCDS cables should be o.k. VCDS-lite has very limited functionality.

Vag kkl from eBay works just fine for me. It was very cheap. You can download vcds-lite from Ross tech for free and use it for basic diagnostics. You can pay the fee and take a license for advanced diagnostics and limited setups. Iirc full vcds comes as a package with its own cable and it is targeted to pros rather than individuals, so is the cost for it.

If you want a tool to make a diagnosis and to solve ordinary problems then registered vcds-lite is for you. For just an error reading and erasing, you can do it with only the free (unregistered) vcds-lite and a cable, like kkl.

For advanced ecu programming, hey, this is a whole different story...
