Back to Skoda / caliper paint

Featured Replies

After a short spell (about a year) from having a fabia Vrs and moving to a golf 1.8T I'm now looking to move back to skoda, Hopefully if all goes well with my haggling skills tomorrow I will be the proud owner of an Octy2 Red 2.0 TDI Sport.

The one thing I am going to miss from the Fabia though is the green brake calipers, does anyone know if I could have the ones on the sport sprayed and if so where from and for how much. I thought about doing it myself but don't know how and can't find anywhere that sells green caliper paint.

Hammerite "smooth green" is the best paint to use. A great match for vRS green and good value too.

Are they easy to get off, Also if you do it with hamerite how long is the car likely to be off the road while waiting for the paint to dry?

Overnight is fine with hamerite...

How long is a piece of string? **** easy for myself, but some seem to struggle getting them back on the right way up which isnt good.

Might leave it for a bit, buying a bright red sport so people will probably just ask why I didn't just buy a vrs if I paint them green

- The whole why make a car you car buy argument...

Still will probably get it done eventually as the standard calipers look a little horrid behind the sport wheels

Careful don't invalidate your warranty, with such a dangerous mod

paint 'em on the car with hammerite. works great and looks fine - give them a wirebrush first to clean the crap off.

hammerite's an enamel so you've got to let it cure. don't paint then go out and hammer the brakes so they get very hot until they're cured - otherwise you'll get green streaks on your alloys...

could be a new trend setter there though, stripy alloys could be the new in thing...

and true, technically speaking I probably would invalidate my warranty as far as anything within a 1 metre radius of the wheels goes

Does hammerite kill rust?

Was thinking of cleaning SWMBO's polo's drums with a wire brush and giving them a coat of black hammerite, but don't want the rust coming through.

Why don't you paint them red?

Just like the 2007 model vRS is going to be.....................

Fabia 1 or 2? Or Octavia 2

Never, Green is traditional ;)

I hope they don't change it from green, the green is just another thing that sets skodas apart from other mainstream cars and makes them better :)

Never' date=' Green is traditional ;)[/quote']

Octavia A5 only as far as I'm aware.

Not sure why they would change the caliper colour, not heard anythng myself or seen the specs for 07 cars, they arent due to be built for a good few months yet.

now red....I like the green, whats the part number for the hammerite.....or is it smoothrite?

Plan to scrub clean then spray whilst fitted. Not too worried about the back side....not that many people are gonna see it... Needs to be done as I just can't keep them clean...

get a great big wire brush. attack callipers on car with wheels off, be quite rough.

paint liberally with hammerite *and leave for 12 hours or so before caning car* as otherwise heat buildup will cause drips of uncured hammerite on your alloys which is a PITA to remove.

A coat like this (it's not paint: it has to cure, so don't do multiple coats without a big gap) will last for year and look mint.

Painted my Octavia GLX estate's brakes with hammerite when i bought some alloys.

Painted them on a Saturday morning - just took the alloys off, cleaned the brakes up and painted them whilst still on the car. Put the alloys back on and didn't drive it till the Monday. Everything fine, no runs or dribbles, the rust didn't come through.

When the garage (an independent Audi place) replaced the pads next service they didn't say a thing about it.

Just be careful not to splash paint around and don't seal any moving bits of the caliper together with paint.

Green Is The Way, I'm Having Mine Done By A Local Garage In Pudsey. I've Now Had The Vrs Rear Spoiler Fited, The Vrs Front Bumper Is On The Way, The 18"s Are On And The Side Strips Are Now New And Colour Coded. All In All A Vrs As It's Been Re-mapped At Forge Motorsport To 177bhp. Was A Sport Tdi And Looks Nice..

IF I CAN EVER FIGURE OUT HOW I'LL PUT A PICTURES ON ONCE FINISHED.
