Rain Sensor....

Featured Replies

The only way I can get my wipers to work sometimes with a totally obscure screen is to turn them off and then on again.

they shpuld work as "normal" wipers if you put the stalk to the second or thrird position - if not they you have a fault.

Well thats what I would have thought but two dealers I have tried have said that is how they work, ie speed sensitive.

Ive e mailed Skoda to see what they say because Im really not happy with it.

Is the rain sensor a triumph of technology over convenience?

We had it on our old Vectra, and it seemed OK most of the time, although just occasionally it would either go berserk, or refuse to work at all.

I hope my Octavia will be OK< we are getting it tomorrow, brand new - can't wait.

Hope it's not raining!

The speed sensitive thing seems to be different from the rain sensor, although they are probably linked in some respect. I noticed this afternoon that my wipers, in the normal speed position, were often slowing or even stopping when I did, at junctions etc.

Eventual reply from Skoda UK as below.

"with the wipers switched to intermittent, they wipe a set number of times with a break in between; this may be adjusted by setting the switch to the desired break.

When the wipers are on fast wipe and if you stop at, for example, junctions or traffic lights they will automatically switch to intermittent until you move off. Again this can be adjusted by setting the switch to the desired break. Please refer to your owner

I phoned Skoda customer service as my rain sensors did not seen to be working if I left the switch in the intermittent/auto position all the time. (Position 1 in that wonderful publication, the owner's manual). The young lady explained to me that every time the ignition is switched off the auto wipers are switched off so if you want the rain sensors to work next time you drive the car you have to move the switch down to the off (0) position and then back up to the intermittent/auto (1) position. This seems to work, but then yesterday morning the wipers switched themselves on when I had not reset the switch!

Anyway this should not be a problem as we are all living through a drought aren't we ??!! P****s down every weekend but when it stops I am not allowed to use a hosepipe to wash my new car.:(

I used the rain sensing wipers for the first time yesterday, and I didn't like them. Even with 5 position switch in the least sensitive position (left side) they wipe too frequently in light rain.

I notice that just after a wipe the screen looks greasy, but that soon fades. I wondered whether the greasiness might be fooling the sensor into thinking the screen is still wet, hence the unnecessarily frequent wiping. Does anyone know if this is important? When I got home I tried to clean the screen. I also wiped the wiper blades with a damp cloth and noticed the cloth got very black from the rubber - is this normal?

Is it possible to have the sensitivity of the rain sensors reduced. Failing that, is it possible to have the car programmed to standard intermittant wipe, with the wipe delay set by the 5 position switch?

The car can't be programmed for standard intermittant wipe unfortunately but it sounds like your rain sensor is faulty as mine is not oversensitive at all.

Hey guys,

Do all skoda superb cars have rain sensor? Mine is 2.5tdi but I have no idea whether it is comfort, classic or elegance because I don't have the owner's manual book as well((((.

Many thanks, looking forward

No it is an option. By the way you have posted in the Octavia 2 section.

This must be some kind of record, nearly 5 years since the last post in this topic emoticon-0104-surprised.gif
