Rear brake dust plate vRS

Featured Replies

Hi peeps

I have a 59 plate vRS TSi. Back passenger side brake dust plate is rattling like a junkie in the meth queue at the chemist. Trying to find the right thing on ebay or the likes for muchos cheapness, but seems to be so many different ones available. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'd considered doing away with it bit from what I've read it doesn't look advisable.

Cheers!

How very helpful of you.

Thank goodness not all people on forums are as helpful as this...

I simply thought perhaps if someone had purchased the same thing recently they might have a link, save me buying the wrong thing. Guess I must be mistaken.

Thanks for your lovely reply.

Don't take it personally, seems so many treat forums as a human based internet search engine.

What your post (and other's) reads to me as 'I fell at the first hurdle-I know I'll ask somebody else to do the work'.

Instead of asking on a forum try a simple internet search, they are sometimes informative and don't get tired doing the donkey work for you.

If you feel my response is unjustified by all means contact a moderator, I am happy to have my post corrected.

try octavia II disc shield or brake plate in your search.

Best thing to do is jack up the car, whip the wheel off and use a pair of tin snips to remove the guard.

Once its off you have a clearer picture of which type you'll need.

Unfortunately, such is their design the brake disc, and therefore the caliper and caliper carrier need to come off to properly remove and replace the shield. Not a great design.

I've had to do a few over the years...

I agree there is many different ones, i ordered 2 sets that was wrong before i got the right ones.

if you go to the Autodoc web site https://www.autodoc.co.uk/services/contact give them your vin number

and reg and they will make sure you get the right ones that's what i did.

Cheers.

Fantastic - very helpful indeed and just what I was hoping for.

Forums are for exactly this. Sharing knowledge and helping those who havs been in similar situations to yourself and helping where you can... Far better than berating people and trying to make them feel stupid for asking a question.

Thanks again, much appreciated!

You only need two pieces of info to find the part number yourself; a 3-character code from the sticker in the boot, beginning 1K, and to say whether the car is front wheel drive or four wheel drive.

Using this page: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2009-663/6/

Pick/click the appropriate diagram (one of the last four) for the 1Kx code you find on the build sticker. then within that there may or may not be a subdivision according to front wheel drive (code 1X0) or four wheel drive (1X1). Best do this on a laptop/desktop as phones sometimes seem to clip out vital columns like 'part code' for some reason.

The left one (ending in an odd number before the letters) is UK nearside.

Let me know if you need any help once you have the 1Kx code to hand. :)

Mike may be a good option if you want to buy a genuine one; he'll also double-check the correct part is being requested or look it up for you from VIN/reg no.

If it's so difficult to find the correct part, how is it I can key "brake back" into ebay's search box, autocomplete shows a selection drop down, one of which being 'brake backing plates'.  Once selected I can then select my car make/model, there's even a box to enter your VRN if manually entering your car's details is too difficult.

I don't mind trying to help others but they need to show some gumption in the first place.

It's all good. I've found what I need due to the helpful posts above.

Cheers!
