2014 Spaceback CAYB 1.6cr TDi loosing coolant

Featured Replies

Hi All, Any common places for the car to loose coolant as I had a quick look the other day and couldnt see anything, looking at our forums it could be the water pump leaking or hose or radiator sensor, I noticed last week the bottle was very low so topped it up and now its happened again ! cheers Stuart

My 64 plate TDI 105 also looses a small amount of coolant. I do notice a drip/trickle when at the fuel station last week. The leak looked to be coming from just in front of the firewall and the back of the engine.

it’s not a huge leak though, top up roughly every 6 months and check before a long journey.

Thanks for that Troy, just took the under tray off and its dripping in two places, one near the sump plug drain, and its looks like the main one along a pipe under the water pump (see pic ) there is a sensor on the pipe but it looks OK, how do you remove the black sump cover underneath ? Cheers Stuart

Looks like its time to do the cambelt and waterpump, think I will go for the INA kit, hopefully no tricky bits to catch me out. cheers Stuart

VAG water pumps are well documented to be a fairly common weak point.

Cambelt and new water pump time...

Just done belts and water pumps on my Rapid and wifes Fabia , both 1.6 tdi , 2013. both showing signs of slight leakage from water pumps . There is what looks like a drain hole on the bottom of the pump and discolouration was visible on both . One has 50k and other 70k , both belts came off looking in perfect condition , both had suffered a slight loss of coolant prior to the change
