2016 RS230 Sealant Normal?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am considering buying a 2016 RS230 which has done around 46,000km.  Im buying sight unseen so had an independant check done (not by a skoda dealer).  They noted sealant around the head gasket and couldnt say whether it was factory normal or if the engine had had work.

1. Do the RS 230's have sealant around the head gasket as normal and

2. Is anyone able to give a view on attached picture if it looks factory or not?  (apologies its the best picture I can get from the dealer)

Many thanks

Mike.

Is that the head gasket or the cam cover? Sealant certainly used on the cam cover, there is usually no gasket there.

Sorry I couldn’t tell you. The pre inspection noted the use of a sealant and the picture is what the dealer sent. Don’t know anything about cars so don’t even know what I’m looking at. Thanks for the response :)

Given that it looks like you can see a fastening bolt I would say it is likely to be the cam cover which is sealant applied. I can't be 100% sure unless the photo can zoom out to show location context but you could email the inspector or call them just to make 100% sure if you are still concerned.
