getting Octavia Mk1 front carpet up

Featured Replies

hi all,

tomorrow I'm planning to get the passenger carpet in my Mk1 Octy up and get it clean and dry after the scuttle leak (after all, it's not as if I can go to the pub or see my friends..)

My plan of attack is - remove the passenger seat (either fully from the car or just set it on the back seat), then the interior sill trim on the nearside as far back as I can, hoping the carpet will sort of peel up, where it can be held back and cleaned easily.

I'm not sure about the hard layer of fitted underlay though  - is it laid in sections and can be removed as pieces? or is it one large mat covering the floor plan? And what about the sound deadening? is it a similar situation?

guidance is much appreciated!

Underlay is separate under both seats and just lifts up. If you’re wanting to dry out the carpet you’ll need to remove the the seats and center console leading up to the dash. Watch out for the vents on the side these need to be removed and the bottom part of the dash needs to come away also. Take your time as it’s very easy to break clips.

In the end I just cut through the carpet in inconspicuous places, and also some of the underlay. I've not got it all up but I've got most of the nasty wet stuff out of the way and some bleach on the black slime under the carpet, needs another good scrubbing and some sun and it'll be fine

shovel a bag of cat litter onto it for a few days to soak out the rest of moisture, or put a dehimidifier in there if you can. other wise youll be in a mouldy stinky car before Easter...

Got mine out today and was wondering, what did you guys do to clean the underlay? Mine is definitely holding in a lot of odour, but the top of the underlay is pretty smooth and solid and I'm not sure the underneath would withstand a vaxing.

Vanish foam and then vac when dry, perhaps?

A towel with some bricks weighing it down was a great wicking device
