Help with new Kodiaq

Featured Replies

Hi all

I picked up my new Kodiaq Sportline yesterday. I’m new to Skoda so have a few questions and looking for any top tips from you guys.

My questions at the moment are around Skoda Connect. I’ve hooked it all up but now it’s saying my service centre has to activate the locking function so I’ve emailed them. Is there anything else I need to do?

Also, should I get a data only sim for the car? Is it worth it and what will it allow me to do. All a bit confusing! If so, how much data will it need?

I’m also confused on a few settings in the car, like Air Care. Seems like a no brainer to have it on, so why’s it even an option? There seems to be so many settings and so much choice it’s a little overwhelming... so what are the generally settings which are a good idea to have?

I’m nervous about using adaptive cruise control. How safe is it? Does it work well?

Thanks!

This link here gives a good overview of the features contained within the various sections of Skoda Connect.

You can either use your phone to create a hotspot which the car uses to connect to the internet, but this might be data hungry depending on your contract, or you can use a data SIM card instead. There are several threads on here discussing the different SIM card options, the free Three data SIM @ 200Mb per month seems to suit typical use.

Due to the security risks associated with being able to lock and unlock the car remotely (plus the fact its a relatively new addition to Skoda Connect) you do indeed need a dealer to activate it for you.

AirCare is just a fancy air circulation feature that filters the air at the same time. Turn it on and leave it on would be my advice.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is a bit Marmite, give it a try and you'll soon determine if you like it or not.

Would be nice if it stopped turning itself off every time you start the car. Even using VCDS to “fix” it doesn’t work for me.

Ah, I didn't realise that.

I wonder if the reason for that is that prolonged driving with the air recirculation set to 'on' can cause the windows to mist up?

I think air care setting has the air con on to take the moisture out of the recirculated air. Good if you suffer with hay fever. I’m not sure what the advantage is over recirc.

ACC is great when you know it’s limitations. I specified this on my SEL as if you like using cruise control it saves the constant adjustment when busy, it will even come to a stop / crawl in traffic with DSG, just be careful as it’s not Tesla autopilot!

It will seemingly overbrake the car if someone slows to turn off and won’t let you undertake (unless you blip the throttle) and sometimes it doesn’t see stopped cars ie at traffic lights,  but on the whole, really useful IMHO.

Can I jump in with a new query?

Does a 2020 Kodiaq normally arrive with little plastic covers over the ISOFIX sockets in the row 2 seats?  Or not?

My old 2017 car did. My new one does not.

ps - I'm not an ACC fan so happy with my old style Cruise

Mine is an MY20 and the covers are fitted, mine is one of the early MY20s though and right at the start of the changeover

My RS doesn't seem to have them, not really fussed.

I’m not fussed either.  I just want to know if they’ve been lost in transit.

I was relieved to find the locking wheel bolt key in place in the boot, but the black bolt cap tweezers were missing. Oh, but I found those later hiding in the glove box.

My problem with the isofix rear seats is that the little housing seems to always come off. Does yours? Happened on my last Kodiaq as well.

I saw on Twitter that someone was complaining to Skoda UK that their Karoq just arrived without the covers. Skoda confirmed they were no longer provided as standard from the factory.

Being "disgusted" by it might be a slight over reaction though...

I continue to be amazed at the  penny pinching approach of Skoda over very minor trivial things, it’s as if as suggested elsewhere they’re pushing the product downmarket.

They might be.  They do need to keep (Lamborghini, Bentley) Audi, VW, Škoda and Seat on quite separate levels.  If Škodas stayed as good as they were getting, they might have been in danger of killing off VW sales.

@silver1011 I'm sure the decision wasn't made by Skoda for all the cost cutting.

Nope, I doubt it too.

VAG have already said they're taking Skoda downmarket.

Agree not Skoda, VAG strategy.

I believe these were deleted from the spec from week 48 of 2019.
