Front caliper retainer spring refitting

Featured Replies

Hi All

Stripped, cleaned and greased front brakes on one side of the car today.

Been a while since I did it last. Anyway the brakes came apart and went back together fine apart from the caliper retainer spring.

Holy moly that is tight !!! Cant remember them being so difficult to do.

I ended up bending the spring to deform it a bit so it wasn't as tight so I could get it on. I have ordered new springs.

I have the other side to do and wondered if theres an easier method of getting them to fit back on???

Never had a problem myself......

Put it in the hole on one side and then push over the other side and just push in other hole.

Maybe yours got deformed before somehow.

They are the original ones. Maybe just a bit brittle now.

I have done them before several times on different cars and never had an issue but that one just wasn't having it today.

Hopefully new springs will have a bit more give.
