Importance of cooling - F1 - Awesome.

The guy right next to the engine thinks he looks cool. But he's obviously deaf

He *will* have ear plugs in, trust me!

A couple of years ago I managed to scam my way into the top paddock at the Goodwood Festival, my mate was chief marshall, and I was about 10 feet away from Massa, in the 2002 Ferrari, when he did a half donut to turn the car round... Loud? Oh, christ yes, I couldn't hear anything for 5mins afterwards!

An F1 car up close and personal when it is being reved into the middle of next week is something everyone should experience once in their life. But they are seriously dangerous to your hearing.

I'll second that. Trackside & Pit Straight at Sepang last year. I had ear plugs and those earmuff radio jobbies on, and still had to shout/be shouted at for 24 hours after.

But it is awesome.

I used to visit Lotus F1 on business. I remember when they stopped using the turbo engines and were selling off the cars with those engines.

There was a Renault mechanic tweaking one of them in the shop, and he had his head right next to the block with it running. I found it too loud, and I was 20 feet away!

.......And the turbo engines were quiet!

Goodwood is a great place to visit if you love the sound of an F1 engine. Last year I got there for when the gates opened and was passing the Toyota tent when they fired it up  Amazing noise.
