Three/Four speed Octy Vrs

Featured Replies

Just had a four day trip to north wales ,got into car sunday morning and set off for family party 35 miles away ,lots of short straights and bends ,about 30 miles into the trip got to fifth ,or tried to ,no way it was going to go in ,stayed in fourth for a bit tried again ,still no go, arrived at end of journey travelling through small town so tried third ,no third either stick just wont move forward into slot . Now in deep merd mode ,get to sisters house ,brother in law big vw/audi fan so we go and look at car ,he tries to select whilst I look under bonnet ,find pipe from front of engine to airbox (about 1.5 in diameter and corrugated )has fallen off and dropped into selector mechanism .PLugged it back into airbox and gearbox is fine .MUCH relief all round .

On my TDi there is a MAF screwed into the back of the airbox and the pipe is clipped onto the MAF with a fairly chunky spring clip a bit like a jublie clip.

Different pipe I think, sounds like the oil breather pipe from the description that kynastonp gave.

1.5" and corrugated going to the airbox?

Sounded like the air intake to me but hey either way at least it's all fixed.

My point was more of a "have you lost a clip mate" comment :)

The oil breather pipe has a built in clip that's pretty flimsy.

its the pipe for the secondary air pump, i had this happen last year about 3 weeks after collecting the car from the dealer whilst having its gearbox changed

to say i was worried is an understatement :)

Yeah that's the one I meant, I always call it the oil breather becasue of the little breather filter that has to be fitted in combination with most induction kits. :o
