Flat battery

Featured Replies

The last time I had a flat battery I think was when I had Ford Cortina 1974!. Have not used ours since Cov19 2/3/20.

On the battery it has several numbers ie  5KO 915 105 E AND 12V 61AH 330 A DIN. Looking on line with Varta which we have it does not mention these numbers .I always have original equipment , not pattern etc, so advice please. Thanks.

PS should mention Elegance 140 bhp  dsg 2011.

5K0 915 105 E is the Skoda/VW part number. If you really want 'original equipment' then a dealer is probably your best choice but it'll cost much more...

However, given it's just a battery, any decent brand of the right size will be fine. If it helps, I'm pretty sure it's a type 027 battery which will help your search. Both the Varta Silver Dynamic or Bosch S5 have been reccomemended by other members and I currently have an Bosch S5 fitted.

Others have fitted larger 096 batteries but I kept the original size :)

Many thanks

096 makes absolute sense for a diesel and is a straight swap, if you have the felt battery cover then some Origami will be needed and it will look naff but to my eyes they look naff even with the correct battery, the good news is that you can upgrade to an OE plastic battery box with removeable lid very cheaply from Ali-Express and the 096 battery fits inside.

Plus one for type 096 from eBay company ABS batteries aka Advanced Battery Services. Plain black battery 4 year warranty calcium. This was a few years back though.

12.3 isn't too bad, but charge it some more and it may well improve further.

IIRC, if you charge it to 'full' it will read about 13.5 ish when you measure the voltage right away, but will settle down to around 12.6. 12.4v would be 75% charged and 12v is 25% charged. so you are probably around 50-60% capacity, if that was fully charged on the smart charger and then youve tested it a few hrs later and its already at 12.3v, id say its knackered! Tried topping up the de-ionised water?
