Opinions on warranty extension in this situation

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hope everyone is keeping well.

I bought my Octavia in January and it came with a 12 month approved used warranty. The car isn't quite 3 years old and I've just had an email to say the original warranty expires in May.

They offered an extended warranty and I can get top level cover with zero excess for £182 for the year.

Is it worth bothering given that I have an approved used warranty until next January or is the approved warranty not as comprehensive as an extension to the original warranty.

Any experience guys or thoughts?

I bought my Octavia last august and have had the same email as mine is up in May too.

I’ll admit I am tempted as a peace of mind type of thing. But like any kind of insurance/cover policy it’s always a gamble.

Myself and a colleague both bought identical Hyundai’s years ago and after 5 years of ownership I’d not needed my warranty at all as had zero problems, my colleague on the other hand was grateful for his as he had no end of trouble. In that situation I’d have been somewhat irked at paying for something I never used but he’d have seen it as money well spent. Still sometimes it’s nice to know you have the safety blanket should the worst happen.

I know that doesn’t really help, like I say it’s a gamble I guess.

Thanks for that. I'm guessing they will throw some more offers at me next January anyway.

Cheers
