EGR Delete a Viable option?

Featured Replies

Greetings

Sorry if this has been covered, tried a search but didn't find what i want to ask.

My 2014 Rapid - 1.6 diesel, has the Engine management light and glow plug light on, had the error read and it's the EGR valve, cant afford to get it fixed and not sure with 140k on the clock its even worth it... so after some googling i have happened across this EGR software delete option..

So as the title, is this still a viable option in 2020?

Thanks.

An EGR delete will probably need the DPF removing otherwise it'll likely to block up. Assuming you're based in the UK, having either removed/deleted should be an MOT failure. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it 😕

Do you know if your engine is a EA189 type and if it's had the emissions fix applied?

Yeah im in UK, Scotland to be exact...  No the emissions fix was offered but I refused it a couple if years ago...

If you clear the code, does it come back immediately or after a few miles of driving?

If it's the latter, I'd take it to a dealer for the emissions fix as the EGR is covered by their trust building measure (TBM). When the error comes back, they should replace the EGR free of charge 😉

The TBM over covers cars until they hit 160k miles or two years since the fix, whichever comes first. Given you've got 20k miles until the mileage limit, it might be worth considering!

Yeah the guy that read the code for me told me about that, but the management light comes back on within a couple of minutes of being cleared, if it was just the Glow plug light, as that can be off for 20 or 30 miles before coming back on..
