Skoda UK bad list price design

Featured Replies

I am looking at a FL SIII estate 190 TDI 4x4 L&K. If / When I spec it similarly to my current SII - and yes I get a lot more with an SIII - with the bits that I like I just scrape over the £40000 barrier. Now also looking at the nearly SIIIs on offer they also seem to leave options unticked in order not to hit this imaginary penalty line.

I really think that was poor list price setting or is Skoda UK not aware of any tax regs?

If I do the same exercise with a V90 and the car already starts well above the £40000 mark I can tick what I want because I have already been penalised and it seems to hurt less.

I know it is all in the head.

When you're spending £40k on a car, does the extra tax really make a difference?

You could always buy nearly new and avoid paying the tax at all

It seems to me that you are unhappy with the spec, and want to add more to it.

Not really Skoda’s fault if you choose to add so much to a car that was under the threshold, you take it over arbitrary Government threshold.   If you don’t like paying tax keep it basic and cheap.

Anyway if you pick a £39000 car, you have already volunteered to pay over £6000 in tax (VAT) so why start bleating about bit more tax, no one is forcing you to spend so much.

Your right it's all in the head. I'm in the same position as you and the extra tax for going over £40k list isn't so much when you compare it with the rest of the costs associated with owning and running a car.

It reminds me of when the £0 rate band was introduced. My brother paid £1200 extra to get an engine that fell into that bracket, the alternative would have been £20 a year instead.

It's all in the mind!
