EGR Valve cleaned but EML light still comes on

Featured Replies

So the EML light came on and when I checked the error code it was 19586 - "EGR System: Regulation Range Exceeded". Following advice read on this forum I removed the EGR valve and cleaned it thoroughly. I cleared the fault code. After a few miles of city driving the EML comes back on, and the code is there again. I have cleared it a couple of times but it keeps coming back. On a longer motorway trip it took about forty miles to come back. But driving around the city it takes only a couple of miles. So my question is do I need a new EGR valve or is there anything else I should try first? Thanks in advance for your help.

Clear the code again and unplug the EGR valve before driving it. Tell us what happens.

Hi. Thank you for the reply. I cleared the fault, and then unplugged the two hoses from the EGR. After about 3 miles the EML light came back on - it was the EGR fault code again. I cleared it again, drove about another 4 miles, and the EML light and the fault code came back again.

Ok, you must have a diesel with a vacuum operated EGR valve then.

I assumed it was an electronic valve on a petrol engine and I meant for you to unplug the electrical connection, not the hoses on a diesel.

Anyone else have a comment on this?

Have you cheked the integrity of the diaphragm and that the valve moves freely with vacuum applied? Have you checked the hoses back to the solenoid valve?

Hi guys,

Octavia engine 19Tdi encounters the same issue as described above. I had the EGR valve cleaned but after a few miles the eml light lights on.

and vag tells 19586 - "EGR System: Regulation Range Exceeded. After clearing the message, the fault turns up again, sooner or later.

Sometimes the EML light turns off for a while and then it turns on again.

Any clue what parts should be replaced / cleaned?

Thank you,
