1.6 TDI Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

Evening,

Newbie here looking to potentially buying a 1.6 TDI Monte Carlo as my new daily drive, I do around 18k per year and  I’ve seen a 2013 model with 70k, full service history and new MOT.

Is there anything  I should be looking for and any common issues at all I should be wary of?

Thank you all.

Very risky - take time to have a comprehensive look through this forum. Full service history + new mot  is meaningless!

Sorry to rain on your parade.

Owned my fabia 1.6tdi 105 since 35k in 2015. Its on 111500 now. - Clutch, AC Compressor, Engine Mount, DPF Sensor... otherwise its been a great car! - What I can say to look for is that its not had the Emissions Recall done and check its had regular services.

if you don't do motorway journeys 99.9% of the times, then this is not the engine for you.

People live and drive north of Perth where there are no motorways and drive diesels.

Short journeys can be the issue, not the type of carriageway or NSL on the road.

yeah I wasn't referring on the type of road your tyres have to roll on. You get the gist...

@Bertie90

I know exactly what you were referring to and longer runs are enough, and that really does not need to be 99.9% of the times to keep a Euro 5 TDI going just fine.

I have a Fabia with the 1.6 TDI (remaped), and during the whole of my studies I was doing 400Km a week (2x200km) of highway, was a perfect engine for that as I consumed less than 5L of fuel per 100km. Also did quite a few long trips with no issues whatsoever, for vacations in Austria or even moving (meaning much more stuff loaded in it) to the UK and now to Czech Republic (I'm originally from France)

However now that I am in Mlada Boleslav doing my end of study internship I do only drive short distances so i'm quite worried for it. I don't know where I'll work after my internship but I know that I want to get rid of diesel and finally get a petrol car. They are overall more fun and you don't need to do big trips with them. Would probably keep my Fabia longer if it was a petrol though, it's a great little car.
