Wheels to hide hubs/discs (Octavia VRS Wagon)

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of changing the wheels on my 2017 VRS 230 Wagon as I'm sick of the rusty looking hubs and discs.

Has anyone got any suggestions for which wheels look good and hide the hubs/discs?

Skoda's Vega Aero Anthracite from the Superb?

Hammerite  silver on the disc centre (not the braking surface).

Disc surfaces will rust as the best discs are high carbon steel.

I was thinking of putting a bit of hammerite on mine, but was concerned about the affect high temperatures would have.

Some brake caliper paint may be better. Only problem is it's often spray paint and you would be better removing the discs to prepare the surfaces and also to stop any spray accidentally going on your paintwork

Luckily there is Silver Manifold & Exhaust paint available that comes in rattle cans.

Apply some rust inhibitor first. Let that react, shake the can lots then spray the offending parts, job done, looks exactly as it did from the factory.

This advice comes to you from 'Kerb side autos / make them look flash and sell for cash'. (As seen)

You can buy the cheaper stuff,£5.89 / Hycote VHT @ ECP,  'just paint' don't bake, just go and brake hard a few times,

(or the more expensive stuff.)

Ah cool. Thanks for the info.

Do you have to rub them down at all or can high temp paint go straight on?

They do it in black colour too.

Just clean back the surface of dirt and smooth off any rust standing proud before applying. VHT paint is self priming and cures with heat. It’s also touch dry in 5 mins.

An opened out cereal packet jammed between disc and back plate takes care of most of the masking work. Cover the Caliper and paint the disk opposite the caliper rotating it as you go. The brake pads clean the excess paint away first time they are used without any problem.
