SO Pi##ed off

Featured Replies

Well the story is this.

I got my Fabia vRS in December '05 and decised to get the emgine remapped just before xmas.

The said company that mapped it took me out for a test drive once the map was inplace.

Was happy with the increase in performance.

Now over the last few months ive had other mods places on the car by Jabbasport, ARB, eibach dampers and springs, brakes, PD160 intake and Green Panel filter. So the usuall.

Now the bad bit.

Went back to Jabbasport for a Blueflame, fitted technician took the car for a test drive, i asked him what he thought of the map.

His comments were, not that good as its overboosting and going into limp mode.

quick check of the falt codes confirmed this.

So, booked it in yesterday for a remap, as the exhaused may have caused the issue. Was only a generic map anyhow.

So, they put it on the RR to start............................ after a few hours they called me into the office........ just knew it was bad news............ Turbo is Fu**ed. Nearly fell over........

Asked why they told me that the map was putting far to much fuel into the car aroung 300rpm's which was taking the boost from the set 1.5bar to 1.77bar and causing the turbo to overboost. Thus destroying my turbo.

When i takled to the 'remap company' they said its a nice steady map throughout the range. According to Jabbasport, 335lb of torque spike low down is not a steady map. This really pi##ed me off. And because they havent got a standard map for my car they carnt even reset it.:(

Ive emailed the company with this info and want to see what they say before i mention any names.

Sorry for the rant.

Sorry to read such bad news. You must feel like ****. 1.77bar is just crazy on a stock turbo. Was it a "Big" company or one of these cheapo jobs?

P.S What you going to do about the turbo? How about getting a GT1749vb from a PD150/PD160?

Wasnt a company like JBS or Jabba, but they do deal with lots of cars, including some skoda dealerships.

Got some ideas but not thought fully decided yet........ didnt think of getting one from a PD150/PD160 though.....

The garrett VB turbo has a stronger shaft so can handle more boost.

mine is the garrett, as this is installed on all new Fabia vRS's.

That is crazy boost low down. Mine pushes 2 bar but thats a better turbo and it only hits that higher in the rev range. :) Am I right in saying you mean 3000rpm? And was it a fuelling only remap, i.e no boost adjustment?

Hope you get it sorted out. Its awful to hear about bad things when remapping, and if there were a lesson to be learned its that you can't go wrong with a custom remap compared to a generic one. :) (although many generic remaps on the market are OK)

It sounds like a difficult one to chase up. The company will probably say the mods you put on (intake, exaust etc) after the map contributed to the broken turbo.

No was boost as well, boost was set quite low i was told but cos of the amount of fuel being dumped it was causing the boost increase to 1.77bar

In which case Itsonlyme and cmcm789 may wish to edit your posts before the 'unnamed company' sees this thread, if they haven't already ;)

Itsonlyme, good luck and let us know how things transpire ;)

only went on saturday mate, no time for them to cause an issue. Also i asked about them when i had the Mod done in December and they said wont make a difference

Some of the bigger companie (reputable) give warranty on engine and other parts.

I used to have a digital tuning box from a well known company who give a warranty on the engine for 3 years (i think) providing the car had less than 60k miles on the clock, and a one year warranty on the unit itself.

If they are recomended by a dealer then the dealer should also be responsible under "Duty of Care".

Any trouble and a solicitor's letter usually works a treat.

Best of luck:thumbup:

I've got a couple of boost logs from remapped vRS's. One was boosting to 1.8bar at 3krpm. Thought this was crazy. 1.6bar seems to be the safe max.

You know the worst thing.......

I got to drive an old renault espace!!!!!!

Name and shame I say!

Name and shame I say!

I disagree.

They should be given the opportunity to put things right first

Might help others make informed decisions in the future though

Name and shame I say!

No, no ,no. :P

To shout too early would ruin any chance of any resolution.

Thats bad news :thumbdwn:

Ive been trying to decide whether to get a generic remap, or spend that bit more on a custom and this thread has helped alot already. Plus Revo are only about 10 miles away from me ;) (Think they do custom maps  )

Dosen't reflect badly on custom maps juts that particular custom map. Lots of people on here with AmD one click custom map without problems.

edit: should say generic map

Its a generic map

Guys been intouch and given me the usuall, "we've put a lot stronger maps on cars..... Its not overfueling........ turbos are well known for failing even on the new cars....... i'll be happy to rempove the map FOC."

Think ive got to get the map on the car analysed to see if this was the problem of just one of these faulty turbos.

I know who it is and your car looked well at jabba today with the tinted windows

Well, its going to be there for a few weeks.......... upto 4 (miss it already)

Decided to take the opertunity of a bad situation and take advantage of a hybrid turbo :D (jabba recon that the turbo is salvageable for this) and have an intercooler fitted.

As jabba dont have one for the fabia yet their getting the manufacturers to design it to my car then they have a product at the end that they can offer.

Not cheap though, still Mike said once he's finished i'll forget whats happend, as my smile will be even bigger.:D

Hope you liked it Monkey Boy, not just tinted but armour glased as well :D

I too saw your car at Jabba today... and MonkeyBoy, nice to meet you fella.

That car is just raw ;), tints look sweet mate.. I spent a while chatting to Nick about your map, and about the Turbo Dynamics rework and blue printing etc...

4 weeks will seem like forever, but it will all be soooo worth it! ;)

So are you gonna get anything from the original tuner or will you be naming and shaming? I remember your posts when you had the map done and you were weary as the tuner hadn't done a car with your particular ECU before. Also I remember you posted in the 'Upsolute or Revo thread' (that went a bit OT :o ) saying you were paying around
