Trunk opening/closing

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have had a problem with my car that I couldn't figure out. Maybe some of you superb owners can help me out.

I have my car for some time now, and I can open the trunk easily from the key or from the button in the interior. Anyway, if I want to close the trunk, I have to go all the way to the trunk and press a button there to close it. There is no way to close the trunk from inside the interior? Its kinda annoying. Many times I want to close the trunk while I am in the driver seat but idk how to do it so I go all the way back to close it.

Thanks guys :D

Sorry, but that is the way it works - you can only close it from the button on the trunk lid.

There is a guy on here who offers to do some coding on your car so that the interior button can be used to open and to close.

I doubt that he would travel to Abu Dhabi, though! ☺️

Ugh are you serious?!! Thats really a HUGE downside from Skoda. Why would they do that... Unbelievable

Anyway, thank you for clearing things out for me. I was thinking I was missing something but apparently not.

Stay safe, thanks again 👍

A pleasure, and you look after yourself, too.

I guess it is safety related, you get used to it.  If you have ever tried to stop the hatch when it is almost closed you will understand why they are cautious.

I had a Honda estate in 2004 which opened and closed the boot from the fob, described as "Wow that's cool" by an 8 year old boy in a car park one day.

The thing is most of the times when I want to close the trunk while I am in the driving seat is when I drop my siblings at school. They go pick up their school bags from the trunk, but for some weird reason sometimes they forget to close the trunk. In this case I am forced to go all the way back to close it.

I have a GMC Yukon Denali, which is an American SUV and I can open/close the trunk from the driver seat. This is why I was hoping my Skoda would have the same and when I was trying to figure it out I couldn't find out a way, so I decided to come and ask here.

It might be safety related as you say, but imo its just a very bad decision from Skoda. Otherwise, the car is just fine. I am enjoying my car so far. I have it for almost 6 months now. No complains about anything.

There are many other manufacturers who have the same arrangement; this isn’t a lone Skoda implementation. I’m pretty sure Jaguar have the same “feature”, as I’ve seen an F Pace (yuk!) driver getting out of the drivers seat, going to the tailgate and popping the button to close it.

On the Superb, if you’re outside the vehicle and you lock the car first, you can then close it from the fob; this doesn’t work if you’re still inside however.

Yea, but I have never seen it here. Most cars here in Abu Dhabi are "Luxury" cars. I never experienced such thing this is why I think it is bad. Most cars here if they are capable of opening by push of a button, they are capable of closing by push of a button. Just feels cheap imo. It is just my mindset is different. Also don't forget it is 45c in Abu Dhabi (Lowest is 30c during night). Going out of the car just to close the trunk and getting back in the car, is enough to get you sweating 😂 It makes sense why Skoda don't have market in UAE. They lack some stuff any of us would want. Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Nissan..etc Do things much better for a climate and for the people's mindset in UAE.

I only bought this car so I can drive it to Egypt from UAE and use it in Egypt, as it is a VERY luxury car in Egypt :D

Interesting perspective. However, I honestly doubt that a system of closing the tailgate is the reason there’s no market for Skoda per se in the UAE. Are Skoda officially available there? Are they sold through a franchise network and if not, how did you obtain yours? What’s the model type you have, Cena? Does it have standard AC, Climate or Refridgeration?

Obviously the system of closing a tailgate isn't the only reason, it is one of them for sure though.

Yes Skoda officially have a dealership here in UAE and I got mine through them. We have one official dealer for Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi and Skoda. They all belong to the same company and that dealer brings different cars of these 4 brands. Anyway, Skoda isn't sold in UAE very often. When I bought mine. I got told from the guy working there most buyers of Skoda in the UAE are either Indian or Egyptian nationals (I am Egyptian) and they tend to ship it to their home country (thats exactly what I would be doing as well).

Mine is L&K 2019 and it have everything you said. Without AC it definitely won't be sold here. It have climate and refrigeration as well. I don't have heated seats tho! But its not really needed.

If you get the chance to visit UAE. I am 99% sure you wouldn't find 1 Skoda around haha

Thanks Cena. And yes, the heated seats wouldn’t be used much in the Middle East I suspect!

Does it have front seat ventilation? What engine is fitted? Be interesting to compare U.K./UAE specs. Ahhh, I thought it’d have fridge if it’s an official import. I had a Peugeot 604TI in the mid ‘80’s which had been brought back to the UK by a ex-pat in Hong Kong; this had a fridge unit in the boot (trunk) and it blasted freezing air into the cabin! It had its own battery in the boot too.

Oki so basically it is doesn't have ventilated seats either. I am missing some features sadly.

I have 150HP 1.4L petrol engine. I was actually thinking to go to Germany buy the car from there and ask the dealer there to ship it to Egypt for me (they only take a "small" extra fees), but I got a very good deal here. My car costed 105,000 Dirhams (22,600 British Pounds). Instead of paying it all at one time, I could get 60 months installment payemts with 0% interest. Isn't this crazy. So I just went for it. That was Dec 2019 when I bought mine. I was thinking to buy the 2020 model year, but it wasn't available back then. They told me it would be on June 2020. I might consider going to them and swap my car with 2020 with a little extra payment. Idk yet, but its a possible consideration. Here is how my car looks like
