Will this battery work in my mk1 fabia? Tia

Easiest way is to get a tape measure and confirm existing battery dimensions, and post orientation.

My mk1 Fabia, which was a 2007 model vRS (BLT engine code), took a Bosch 008 battery (a type 096), so bigger than the one in the above photo. I'm pretty certain the OEM battery was smaller though.

The best advice is to measure your existing as above, also see how much extra room you have in the battery tray as you may be able to 'upgrade' to the next size up.

Edit. just found a photo. My original battery was a type 027, which is what the Bosch S4 005 is in the photo. That is the size fitted to the later BLT engine code Fabia vRS from the factory. As above though the bigger type 096 also fit.

Cold Cranking Amps is also very important on a battery for a diesel. Diesel’s require high CCA to get them turning.

I didn't know you could power your car electrics with batter. I will get some next time I'm at the chippy 😁

Perhaps a pickled onion or two might be enough 🤨.

Personally, I note that all the TDi versions use the 096 type battery which has a lot higher cranking current availability than the lower current one that shows up on a lot of motor factor sites.

According to Tayna, you are correct. All Diesel Fabias have 096 type batteries. However, they can be wrong. They were when I needed to replace one from my brother's Fiesta. I have a feeling the newer Mk1 Fabias (possibly with BLT engines) have a 027 type battery. Please measure your existing battery.

Type 096

Length 278 mm
Width 175 mm
Height inc. terms 190 mm

Type 027

Length: 242 mm

190 mm

The one the OP has is a 027 type. If box/carrier was designed for 096 battery, then the 027 being a little shorter, should fit in the space with air space either side. The widths are the same, so should not effect how it is clamped down. Obviously a 096 battery will not fit in a 027 box/carrier.

Jim- bit of a minefield. When I replaced mine a few years ago ( six/seven), my fast fit place thought it was a smaller battery., so I took my old one in ,to find that I needed an 096. When I had problems on driver side dip headlamp ( holder had melted on lamp) I had to remove the inner liner to get battery to fit, so perhaps the newer 096 are slightly longer than th one fitted at factory, or perhaps I only need an 027. If that's the case, then perhaps it's worth looking at fitting the higher capacity battery if possible as the inner battery liner ( I suspect ) would give that extra few cm, for the fw extra ££ to give a lot longer life. I've always taken the view that paying a bit more for a larger battery ( if it will fit)  is worth it in terms of additional battery life.

The Varta Silver E44 (096 type) I bought, was the exact same dimensions as the original Akuma. The original had lasted around 12 years and had started to fail.  The Varta Silver (equivalent to Bosch S5) had higher capacity 77Ah vs 70Ah, and higher CCA, 780A vs 570A and had a 5 year warranty.  I did have the earlier vRS with ASZ engine, with 096 type as standard. I can't remember if I had trouble fitting it.
