Limited revs at high speeds

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've just recently purchased a Skoda Octavia 2006 vRS 2.0 and upon driving the vehicle away from the garage I noticed at higher speeds in gears 3-6 that sometimes the engine loses power, now I saw a thread from a long time ago about this engine having an issue with crankshaft and camshaft sensor can cause this sort of intermittent issue although I've not receiving any codes upon reading the car. I took the car to a garage for a general diagnosis and they said that it could be the ram that connect the high pressure fuel pump to the camshaft could be worn but this doesn't seem right to me as it would be an issue across all gears revving surely as I can max out revs in 1st and 2nd gear without issue no lack of power at all and its intermittently in 3rd gear.

I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has had this issue bear in mind the engine does have 149k miles on it and I just wanted to make sure the garage aren't making **** up considering its a new garage that I've never used before since last one kept ripping us off.

I have already replaced the crankshaft sensor and since doing so I have been able to max out 3rd and 4th gear almost always with very little chance of the power just dropping and it limiting me to about 3k-3.5k but it still does this sometimes in 5th and 6th gear, any ideas would be appreciated and should I go ahead and just replace the camshaft sensor and see how it does after this?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can lead to a solution for this.

Im still working towards sorting this on mine.

High pressure Fuel pump and cam follower are common problems on these engines.

I have so far replaced:

In this order

Fuel filter

High pressure Fuel pump (was occasionally getting code indicating the valve)

Cam follower

Crank sensor

Was then getting fuel pressure codes and power cuts becoming more regular. (These codes do not come up on normal reader as it does not throw up a code. I have a reader that reads VAG specific codes, but also comes up with VCDS)

I have since replaced and updated

Low pressure fuel pump controller. (This seems to have stopped the power cuts, but was still getting fault codes (no engine light)

Have now replaced low pressure fuel pump tp latest revision.

So far things are looking up, but only driven a couple of hundred miles due to lockdown.

See if you can get someone with vcds or similar to do a full system scan if there are any underlying codes.

Next maybe get the cam follower inspected/ replaced next as suggested by the garage, its not an expensive part and if they are taking it off to inspect they may aswell put a new one one.
