Continental headlight adjustment

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if it possible to get at the lever which my dealer says adjusts the headlamps for european driving without removing the headlamp

I really cant see myself taking the headlamps to bits on the docks at Portsmouth and Bilbao

Excellent idea but I assume its really to make it easier to manufacture/standardise on light units especially as its not mentioned in the handbook.

Same goes for bulb replacement as well according to the manual.

Very easy to remove headlight to change bulbs (just changed all mine) details on how to do it are on page 296 of your manual, this gives easy access to all bulbs except the sidelight buls which are a bugger to change!.

As for adjustment for continental driving I'm not sure, but I would imagine a sticky lens convertor would do the job.

Halfords own brand sticky converters work fine.

When I bought mine in June last year the Ocky 2 was not listed. I contacted the manufacturer who told me to use diagram 8. They worked fine.

I've had a good look inside a regular light and could see the bar myself.

I'd agree with that.

(just changed all mine)

What ones did you get ?

It's my understanding that if you have zenons then you can't use the converters and you need to use the switch. So is it very easy to do with zenons (i'm not the greatest on the practical front)?

Hi,

Have you thought of getting a pair of Skoda continental touring converters fro your local Skoda dealer?.

I have a pair for my Fabia (cost

Thanks everone

I did ask the parts man at my dealer about these converters but he seemed to think they are not available for the Octavia, only the Fabia, and directed to the changover lever.

Failing that Ill get the stick on things from Halfords as Im definitley not taking lights to bits at the ports

Try Skoda Customer Services, email: [email protected]

I contacted them to ask if the converters I bought for my Fabia would also fit the Octavia (for when we swap the Fabia for an Octavia after our house move).

They replied that they would not , due to the headlights being a different size and that I could purchase converters to fit Octavias through my local retailer.

Hope this helps. Best o' luck

Phillips Ultra Vision +50, which are better more noticable on high beam although I am a little dissapointed with the main beam performance. Might change these for Phillips Blue Vision.

Here is a hint.

Walk along the cars in line on the dockside and see how many drivers bother at all these days.

I'm always in the majority and it stops me looking like a novice.;)

Living on the South Coast I have noticed that The French never bother to adjust their lights, and Guess what?

Neither do I when I go over there!

Not just the French...us Brits living in Belgium don't always bother either. Well, I didn't when I went to England a couple of weeks back. :o Mea culpa!

I suppose I should go look and see if the adjustment is there on left hand drive models too.

piece of cake. Altohugh you need a T8 (i think) Torx screwdriver/ratchet bit to undo the rear cover on Xenon equipped lamps.

You may need to look for it as it's not very big and you need a small flat bladed screwdriver to push it in and turn.

Once you know how to do it it's a 5 minute job.

Do you have std lights ? I got the Xenons and find a kinda dead spot in the main beams right on the horizon of were your looking. I was thinking about getting a set of Philips Vision Plus H1 (any ideas how the ultra vision compares to these ? ).

Skoda Service eventually sent me a picture showing the adjustment lever.

Took a headlight unit out, which I agree is a doddle, and removed the rectangular plastic cover.

Mine is an Elegance which has the adjustable beam leveler, dont know if they all have, but inside the headlamp unit is a black plastic unit which the dealer has confirmed is the adjustment motor.

The beam adjustment lever is behind this motor so instead of being a nice simple operation it means virtually stripping the headlamp unit.

The dealer has said its a real pain and they generally have to reset the beam adjustment so advises either getting the headlamp protectors and sticking tape on them or the aforementioned Halfords sticky things.

Shame as what is a good idea in theory turns out to be difficult in practice.

Oh dash it!

What a pain in the backside

No wonder the Froggies don't bother when they come over here!

Has anyone figured this out yet?

We will be visiting France four or five times a year, sometimes in the winter with plenty of nightime driving so Im anxious to get this sorted.

The Halfords things didnt seem to make any difference to me and at

Does anyone know whether this lever is accessable on a late 2006 octavia?

Or are the continental touring converters definately available?

Anyone interested in selling a second hand pair?

cheers

Have xenons, understand you can't use convertors and am reluctant to start dismantling headlamps each time we cross the channel.

So instead use Octy 2 foglamps after dark - may not be legal, but at least they're not dazzling anyone and give a good enough light.

Mine arent Xenon's, just standard ones.

It's just i'm going for a month long trip, so I think I should make the adjustment!

I have emailed customer services, but they take an age to reply.

Paul

Get a set of LHD light clusters from a breakers in europe.

Swap them over, the whole cluster comes out piece of cake and you can have them all filled up with bulbs too :)

Sounds a bit too complex to me, nothing simpler anyone?

Eventually had a response from skoda, this is what they said!

Further to your recent email, this is just to let you know that I am still looking into your enquiry. May I offer my apologies for the delay and assure you that I will write to you again as soon as I have completed my investigations.

Cheers

Paul

Its easier than doing anything else, the procedure is outlined in your owners manual.

Remember using the lever in the lamp doesnt convert the beam over to continental spec, it just knocks the high bit of the beam off.

i.e if you had LHD lights they wouldnt pass the UK MOT with the bar flicked across.
