Electric Window Problems

Featured Replies

Just got informed that i need a new motor for the drivers side electric window, and apparently they cost about £300 new. So, now i'm wondering if it can be converted to a manual crank window. Is that possible? And how easy (or not) is it to do?

There will be plenty of used one's on eBay for a better price,  if not a keep-fit  conversion would be easy.

What's wrong with the existing motor?

Hi M, what years your car? 🤔

It's a 2008.

They didn't say what was wrong with it. Just told me i needed another one, either new or used. Can't afford new at the moment. The breakers did not have one, and told me they are hard to get. Not seen one with the same part number on ebay yet: p/n 6Y1959801

I would be happy enough with a manual window. I believe they can be converted.

Also, not heard of a keep-fit conversion. What's that?

ps. you tend to lose your sense of humour after a couple of weeks in a very hot car.

Winding it up yourself !

Careful, it sounds like someone is pulling your plonker, a used window motor can be found for £30 ish

I think that will be a common part throughout the VAG range, I would suggest you either get a vcds scan to confirm the fault code and get the part number or take the door card off and take photo of the motors part number

Hi M, with that year of car it could be broken wires going through to door.

I had this on a 55 plate Touran, the loom was £55 new from VW and took a leisurely few hours to fit
