Tyre burst even though 4mm tread remained

Thank you all for your input. The common theme I can see is to get the wheel alignment checked and reduce the pressure in my tyres down from 34 psi to 32 psi. Going to do both of those and I'll post back about the wheel alignment just in case anyone's interested :)

Speed and load ratings do not have any bearing on front or rear as long as they are within the envelope for the car.

It is the tyre tread depth you should consider when you decide which tyre goes where. Ideally the better tread depth tyre is on the rear because the rear looses grip first in dynamic load shifts and the rear also "guides" the car in a skidding situation.

I always inflate tyres on the family cars to the higher end of normal, i.e. 2.4 - 2.6 bar and higher if loaded.

With regards to the blow out put it down to bad luck.

Hello,

I had the wheel alignment checked today. It was off by a little bit on the driver's side front tyre so only had it carried out on the fronts. Was told that the back two are fine. Guy mentioned that the bursting of the rear tyre may be to do with the suspension bushes bearing down more on that side but who knows. I hope it doesn't happen again.

Thank you all for your input.
