Problem with passenger side electric window

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a problem with my Octavia II where the passenger side elctric window is not going up in one push. It stops (most of the times) 3 times on the way up. To get it to continue up I have to click the button again. Sometimes it goes all the way with one click.

I have attached a video where you can see the problem. Any ideas what can be causing this?

Thanks in advance!

stroba

If the battery has been disconnected recently, it may just be that you need to make it remember the position of the limit stops. The fact that it takes three goes suggests that this is the problem. To reset the stops do this:-

When you have got the window to the top position as shown in the video then immediately hold the close button on again for more then 3 seconds. Repeat in the down position.

Alternatively, and less likely, the "anti finger pinch" feature is operating because of friction in the window slides.

You haven't said which year and model details so assuming it not too old you should be able to override the feature as shown in this extract from a driver's handbook:-

"The electrically operated power windows are fitted with a force limiter. It reduces
the risk of bruises or injuries when closing the windows.
If there is an obstacle, the closing process is stopped and the window goes down
by several centimetres.
If the obstacle prevents the window from being closed during the next 10 seconds,
the closing process is interrupted once again and the window goes down by
several centimetres.
If you attempt to close the window again within 10 seconds of the window being
moved down for the second time, even though the obstacle was not yet been removed,
the closing process is only stopped. During this time it is not possible to
automatically close the window. The force limiter is still switched on.
The force limiter is only switched off if you attempt to close the window again
within the next 10 seconds - the window will now close with full force!
If you wait longer than 10 seconds, the force limiter is switched on again." 

Also look at the window slides for signs of deterioration, tree sap, etc. Some people have used WD40 or similar to lubricate the slides but any lubricate tends to pick up more dirt longterm.

It isn't backing off (anti finger pinch) - that is horribly obvious when it happens.

... it certainly looks like it's forgotten where the limit stop is, as suggested by pikpilot it would benefit from a reset.

I've never had to do that on any of my skodas, but all the Fords + BMWs I've had over the years have often needed it done ... usually related to the frequency of use, my last Mondeo had to be reset most months.

On both of those marques, you open the window fully holding the button and keep holding it down for a slow 3-elephant count once fully open, then close by holding the switch again to force past any fake stops, and then hold in the closed position for another 3-elephants. It should then work as a one-touch again  :)

Thanks for your answers! The car is year 2007.

I tried to reset but it didn´t help.

I will remove the door panel this weekend to get a better view of the window mechanism and maybe lubricate where needed.

Have you trawled this thread ?   There is mention of removing and cleaning the fuses as well as a strip + clean of the switch circuit board. Good Luck 🤞
