Magic brown?

Featured Replies

Am I one of a very small group of people to have a brown superb? Is this a colour most owners clubs/forums avoid?

😄

Pix plz 🙂

For reference I personally like many rusty shades of 70's and 80's BMWs.  I once almost bought a brown Mini Cooper S with white stripes in a package called hot cocoa and also a brown 1978 Porsche 911 (930 Turbo) in brown with yellow leather seats.  (Choco banana)... still kicking myself on that one.

I think the colour suits the car really well (the estate for sure).

when I bought mine I had the choice of a 190 L and K Estate in brown with beige interior, no extras, or a 150 L and K estate in petrol blue with the flat floor, spare wheel and a towbar.

in the end I went for the blue car, basically because of the extras.

they were both the same price (in terms of monthlies). The brown car  was physically at the dealers and looked great but the blue car just edged it for me. Had they both been the same spec except for the colour, I’d have taken the brown one.

The brown I really hate is the 'chocolate' interior, I really wish they would replace it with a nice tan colour. I'm bored of black and the cream is ok but it's a bit magnolia !

The Brown one I bought used this February looked really nice in Brown with the beige interior. It was raining when i looked at it and when I picked it up a week later. I have since seen the petrol blue which I also think is a nice colour and would probably opt for if I ever change to a newer Superb.

Depending on the time of day/light... it can look like a poopy brown dull colour to a borderline black car as it becomes dusk.

Well, I thought it was a lovely colour when I first saw it and I like it even more now. Fortunately, it’s nothing like the awful bronzes that Ford created back in the ‘70’s. Use Poorboys Black Hole sealant followed by their Natty Black Wax and that reflection goes deeeeeepppp!

Yeah, they’re lovely but they’re a bloody nightmare to clean ‘em properly though!

I really don't like it. When I was looking for my karoq in November there was a brown Octavia sitting in the showroom with the beige interior - even the showroom lights did it no favour. It was a brand new car but discounted more than other similar Octavias. It was near the salesmans desk so I said I'd never physically seen a brown one before and now realise why. He said it was a cancelled order. He said the group buys in bulk from Skoda but they've never ordered a brown car, it's customer request only and that's the only customer they've had that ordered one.

And there you have the problem with unpopular colours like brown. It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks, only the owner's view counts, but what is undeniable is brown is a hard sell. All depends how much you pay for the car in the first place of course, but when it comes time to part, it's likely the trade price goes down simply because of the colour. ( Different if it's a lease car of course. Perhaps the price of the lease goes up if you order brown :D ).  The car will sell eventually, everything does, but dealers don't want cars that are going to sit on their forecourts long term.

Just had a look on Autotrader. There are only 15 brown Superbs listed for sale and I note a few of those registrations begin OV or OW which suggests those cars may have been originally registered by the manufacturer.

Tell me about it... but I do love a turbine spoke.  This was mine back in 2006-2007

Yes and all the best when you try to move it on. Saw a new Ford Kuga in swamp brown the other day and how do I put this tactfully.............it looked bloody awful.:whew:

I never worry about passing cars on, i tend to only keep cars for 3-5 years and by the time I have finished with them they will have been to the moon and back and will probably end up at some dodgy Taxi company. :D

Fair enough it may make a future appearance at ABC Taxi's then..........ALL BROWN CABS.:whew:

It’s odd as most people have a preconceived idea that it’ll look sh1te but are complimentary when they see it. In any event, I don’t give a toss about residuals as I don’t plan on moving it on.

Perhaps they're just being nice to you. :D

Nah, they aren’t sycophants - they’d truly say what they thought.

It would appear so.

My previous S2 Superb Elegance was beige / brown (Cappuccino perhaps?) colour with cream leather interior. It looked OK to me but when you buy cars 2nd hand like I do then you don't get to choose the colour because it's the price, mileage & spec that determines what you get.

My current S3 Superb Estate is black with black leather interior which wouldn't have been my choice if I had bought it new. Black paint is mare to keep looking clean & shows every little imperfection. But it does but look good when clean.  A previous Audi A6 Avant I had was silver & that looked good even when dirty!

Yeah, our CR170 (230 remapped) was candy white with black interior.

The black leather was bloody awful. I got it with 23k and it already had slight cracking on the bolsters; by the time I sold it with 21k more miles over six years, the seats looked terrible; I had to fill them and dye them to make them presentable.

Our 2006 PD140 Elegance with ivory/mushroom/beige interior and 123k miles still looks in better condition OK.. so I can’to sell the old girl as she’s worthless but I love driving her!).

However...

The leather in the 280 does seem to be better quality, albeit Pryke had kept the car in wonderful condition and that included the seating.
