I've had my Furby Elegance for 2 years now and upgraded the standard 14" alloys to the 15" ones.

I'm far from technically minded, but I'm noticing that the ride is pretty damn rough at the moment and find driving over badly tarmaced roads and sewer grids, potholes etc. is awful.

Was upgrading to 15" a bad move, or should something have been done to the suspension to make the ride firmer or what?

I used to have a 1.4 Comfort with plain steel 14" wheels and I think the ride was much better than I'm getting now.

Any suggestions or is there something that needs checking out?

are you running the correct tyre pressures ? my brother has an elegance and i didn't notice that the ride was too harsh , the tyres are lower profile so you should expect a firmer ride .

Yes, I check my tyres regularly as I do a lot of motorway travel. I was thinking that it was to do with the lower tyre profile.

Can you get tyres of a higher profile for 15" alloys and would this make the difference?

if you fit higher profile tyres the overall diameter of the wheel/tyre will be too high and your speedo will be out.

try driving a car with 17" or 18" wheels then get back into yours

I'm running with about 33 psi front and 31 psi rear.

doesn't sound massivly high then, my mate used to run 45psi in his 106, no wonder it was a bit skittish :eek:

15" are standard on the 2.0l one but all the others get 14" wheels of the same design....

It was a 1.9 tdi estate that I nearly bought.

Looks like only the more expensive/heavier ones get them

i put "15s on my furby wagon (see sig) the ride is fine i guess it depends on the tyres some have stiffer sidewalls than others....

I've fitted 15" alloys to my wife's Fabia Elegance Estate (they came off my Golf TDI which now sports new 16" alloys) & they are fitted with 195/65/15 tyres which because of the larger profile only just fitted in the rear wheel arch of the Estate without touching.

Anyway, the ride on them is superb & they seem to absorb road bumps very well indeed making travelling on our crappy roads here much more comfortable .

I suspect they might get a bit out of shape if I were to start to push it hard in the corners but for everyday use really, I can't fault them !

One interesting thing is that the bigger diameter tyre has changed the speedometer reading to being "bang on" with the GPS (the speedo used to under read) all the way up to to 100mph & maybe even beyond that but I haven't been there yet, well it's the missus's car !
