Unsure wether MKII or MKIII

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any advice or knowledge wether my Fabia is a MkII or MkIII? I suspect its a Mk2 but i would just like to confirm, as I would like to post any questions on the relevant and correct forum. My car is a Fabia SE 12V Petrol Hatchback 1198CC VRN SE64 LDX. The date of first registration was 31/01/2015. Now, i read online that the Mk2 production was from 2007 to 2014. This is what is giving me some doubt due to the registration year of 2015, although I imagine the production year was possibly 2014 (or earlier?)? Thanks for reading

Have a look at the middle few digits of the VIN. If you see a 5J in there it's a mk2, if you see NJ its a mk3, I think.

I've just got the vaguest memory of having been wrong about this before, but have a look anyway!

Edit, you probably don't need to bother checking that. 3 pot 1.2 was replaced by 1.0 for mk3, apparently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Škoda_Fabia#Third_generation_(Typ_NJ;_2015–present)

There is a 5J in there. So you reckon its a MkII? That's very helpful Thanks a lot. Should save the moderators a job  moving my posts to the correct forum!

Thanks Wino. Around 45000miles. I've just been reading your 'quote' regarding the vehicle data sticker. I just noticed this whilst trying to find out my original question. I can't make head nor tails of the codes.

Am I right to assume the Engine Code is AMB?

Your engine code is the CGPA, gearbox code probably LNR. Got a feeling LA7W is a colour.

Various online resources will tell you what all the others mean. :)

I think AMB will be short for Ambiente? Trim level?

For trim level, I take it you mean Fabia SE 12V??

Ive just seen another poster's data sticker and he has hidden his VIN number on the photo. Out of curiousity, what is the reason for hiding this? Is this information better to be kept private? (just minutes after plastering my own sticker on here🤔)

the AMB is "Ambiente" which is the trim level the car was built to.

the 12V is the number valves - 4per cylinder

LA7W-8E8E is the paint colour code

(Brilliant Silver)

all the other stuff relates to upholstery, radio, elec windows, cruise control etc that were part of the build code for the factory. its mostly irrelevent tbh.

some people dont like to post up chassis numbers or reg numbers as they could potentially be used to "clone" a vehicle.

Brilliant. Thanks

Go to this website  http://igorweb.org/equidec.aspx You can input all those codes and the tool will decode the options and you'll know what options your car left the factory with.

Thanks Lee01.

I'm sure the first page of your service history book gives you a rundown of the codes

What a shame that the Service books that were showing services and body checks if filled in stopped going in cars during the production years of Mk2 Fabia.

@geochr

Welcome to the forum.

There were Mk2 Fabia still being first registered in the UK in 2015 no matter when they were built.

?

Where was your car Registered.

So what are the 2 letters at the start of the Reg Number?

The VRN is SE64 which I understand to be Glasgow

I believe the 64 related to September 2014??? Why does my v5 show the date first registered as 31/01/2015 in that case?

Sept 2014 - March 2015.   So yes Jan 2015 a 64 plate.  They tried to get all Mk2 First Registered before March, but there are some on 15 plates.

Mk 3's were just arriving to customers in 2015, some were late 2014 in Dealerships as Demonstrators.

PS

SE64   Aberdeen / Aberdeenshire.
