2007 Octavia dashboard (Clock, fuel milage etc...) resetting

Featured Replies

Hi asking this on behalf of my dad who owns a 2007 Octavia 1.9 TDi estate.

He's saying that everytime he turns the ignition off all of the settings on the dashboard such as the time, fuel milage data etc... is reset. He says it's not doing it when you start the car but that when you turn the ignition off & pull the key the dash stays on briefly with the gauges remaining where they were & that this is when everything resets.

He had initially thought it was a battery issue but it's had a brand new battery fitted & it's still doing it. It's also been on a diagnostics computer recently during an MOT which brought up no issues & apart from this resetting issue everything else is working fine.

There are two settings for that data ..   overall and trip iirc (we never use them)  If he has it set to trip it will rest each trip unless you do a second trip within half an hour if the first.

From memory you can tell which is which by a small differ 1 or 2 in the display.  I think it needs to be 1 for overall but the info will be in the manual

That was the first thing he checked & everything resets regardless of what it's set to.

He's saying that it loses everything, Not just the mileage but the clock date/time & everything that that's displayed on the dash goes back to default.

He's owned the car 5-6 years now & It's something he said only started happening late last year, Infrequently to begin with but now it's every time.

Ah i see...   sounds like a lack of a permanent feed to the dashboard...   daft question but are all the fuses ok?  If so then my guess would be a dry joint on the circuitboard for the dash clocks
