Introducing myself

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just thought id introduce myself. Recently bought a 2010 Octavia vrs with 60k miles on clock. Ive decided it was time for a bigger car so sold my stage 2 corsa vxr and got this bad boy! I will be looking to go stage 1 remap with a few mods (cat back and air filter). I have read there seems to be a problem with the cambelt snapping on these but not to worried about that as vxrs had plenty of "common faults" but i never had any!

Im just wondering if anyone can recomend some spark plugs and what gap they should be set at. Forced induction are usually 0.6/ 0.7mm aren't they?

Cheers

Hi Welcome,

On a EA888 CCZA engine, it is the timing chain tensioner at risk.  I would consider replacement which is normally done along with chain and guides as it is a lot of work getting in there.

The OEM and aftermarket specific plugs are pre-gapped. 0.7mm for Bosch, and 0.8mm for NGK.

Hopefully, you've got one where there is a good history of oil changes less than 10k mile intervals. These engines, with carbon build up issues on scraper rings don't like extended variable servicing very much.

+1 on the tensioner. Just do it because fixing it now is cheaper than your engine going bang!

Thanks for the help fellas! Yeh ill get that done pronto. I'll be giving it a full service soon so will replace the plugs. Can anyone recommend any? With the corsa i got recommended the cheaper copper plugs (NGK Bkr7e) when pushing for more power as they run colder and to drop the gap to 0.6/0.7mm.
