October 2019 1.5TSI Safe to Buy?

Featured Replies

I'm currently on the lookout for a Kodiaq and found a reasonably priced delivery mileage model in a nearby Skoda dealership.

The car was registered in October 2019 and hasn't been sold since, having recently been dropped significantly in price (to £21,000).  I was doing some research on the engine performance and efficiency and came across the kangarooing problem with the VAG and this engine in particular.  Now i'm thinking the car has been sitting there because of the engine problems and the dealer is looking to flog it off?  Should I ignore the petrol engine and find a diesel instead?

The problem was resolved on older cars with a software update. Cars coming off the production line in October do not have that problem.

I'm sure the usual doom and gloom merchants will reply citing one man and his dog having an issue, but even if it were true, that's 1 in 10's of thousands. Where your fear makes no sense is you say it's a del. miles car.  How would they be able to tell if it has problems if it's del mileage?

Easy solution - take the car for a test drive.

Petrol -v- diesel?  Well that all depends on how you intend to use the car.

Edit - forgot to add, all depends on what car / spec but with the current offers you may be able to buy a brand new Kodiq for around £21,000.  That's more likely the reason the car has been reduced.  If you buy via PCP from current stock, theres £4200 off list price + 3 months free payment. Then take off the normal dealer discount and you'll not be far off £21,000 if it's a 1.5se manual.  Costs nothing to enter the car spec in to Carwow and see what sort of offers you get back.
