Most reliable diesel engines

Featured Replies

Hi.

I new to this forum.

I like to get some advice please.i don't know anything about those cars . . I planing to buy used skoda octavia from 2009 to 2012 with diesel engine.so which engine is the best?  1.6. 1.9 2.0 or 2.0vrs?. Is there anything specific to check on those cars apart from basic things.what's the common faults?on them.

Thank you

For longevity you'd be looking at a 1.9.  no DPF and if serviced regularly they can be pretty bombproof

As Skomaz says, a 1.9PD with a full service history will serve you well. Mine has done 250,000 miles without issue. And my VW Van has done 275,000 with a few hiccups (yes i know, wrong spelling) but nothing too major.

Thanks guys.

And what about 1.6 tdi any good?

out of those years you want the 2.0CR engine. The late 1.9PD engines with DPF are to be avoided like the plauge and you see the odd post on here about injector issues on the 1.6CR which would also make me sway towards the 2.0, The fuel economy difference doesn't seem worth the reduction in power for me

Usual issues as with most VW products is crappy waterpumps, EGR valves can fail and changing one is a bit of a nightmare job which makes the job quite pricey

PD1.9 and PD2.0 140 are both reliable engines,

if you are going for a VRS avoid the 2.0PD170 and find 2.0CR instead as the pairing with DPF don't go well with PD engines

If you really want reliabilty and longevity then you need to buy a much older pre PD diesel, mine I think it was an ASV was still like a swiss watch at 500000 kms.

But at that age there are other things to let the vehicle down notably electronics.
